Council to discuss Section 8, housing authority

The Vacaville City Council is set to take on section 8 housing in the city as well as the Housing Opportunities Through Modernization Act and several other items at Tuesday's meeting.

Housing Choice Vouchers are administered by local organizations, which in Vacaville's case is the Vacaville Housing Authority. The VHA provides $12.6 million to the local economy each year, according to city staff, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides 1,392 vouchers to the Vacaville Housing Authority each month.

To receive federal housing funding, the city must provide both five-year and annual plans regarding the Vacaville Housing Authority and its plans to implement housing funds in the city.
