Two SCOE administrators earn major honors from state association
Two Solano County Office of Education employees have been named as recipients of the Association of California School Administrators' Administrator of the Year awards.
Valerie Garrett and Lisa Eckhoff received the honors in the association's Region 4, which includes Solano, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Marin, and Sonoma counties.
The awards recognize “outstanding educational leaders who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and commitment to serving students and communities,” Jennifer Leonard, a spokesperson for the Fairfield-based SCOE, said in a press statement.
Eckhoff was recognized in the Central Office category.
As the director of Early Learning, she has spearheaded countywide initiatives, including professional development workshops, collaborative networks, and data analysis efforts, aimed at enhancing the quality of early learning programs.
“Her tireless advocacy for student success and ethical leadership make her a true asset to the educational community,” Leonard wrote in the prepared statement.
“Lisa is an exemplary candidate for this award,” Solano County Superintendent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson said. “She is very innovative and creative, always with a focus on improving student outcomes. In all my experiences with her, I have found her to be a true advocate for students and their needs.”
Garrett, who earned a doctoral degree, was recognized in the Continuation/ Educational Options category for her “exceptional leadership” as director of Educational Options, said Leonard.
Serving students in Juvenile Court and Community Schools, “She has transformed the lives of countless individuals through her unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive environments and supporting students in realizing their full potential,” said Leonard, adding, “Her advocacy for mental health supports, life skills development, and innovative educational programs, such as construction trades and STEAM labs, reflects her dedication to providing diverse pathways to success for all students.”
Said Estrella-Henderson: “Valerie believes in the potential and promise of every student. Her tenacity and perseverance have led to the development of numerous programs that empower students and prepare them for future success.”
