Woman faces court dates for biting officer and trespassing
A 49-year-old woman arrested March 30 in Fairfield on suspicion of biting a police officer and assaulting him will face a Solano County Superior Court judge in the coming days.
Charged and arraigned last week in Department 4, Latonya Evans faces a readiness conference at 9 a.m. Thursday and a preliminary hearing at 10:30 a.m. April 15 in Department 1 in the Justice Center in Fairfield, online court records show. She is represented by the Solano County Public Defender.
At the time of her arrest in the 2000 block of Cadenasso Drive, Evans also was arrested on several bench warrants, including one for first-degree burglary and failure to appear in court on a felony charge, both felonies. The two other bench warrants cited four misdemeanors, including one for causing a fire to property.
Evans remains in Solano County Jail on the charges, with bail set at $47,500 on the felony assault charge and $20,000 on the bench warrants.
According to a release issued by the Fairfield Police Department, Evans' arrest came after a shoplifting incident.
Officers on March 30 responded to a retail store in the 2000 block of Cadenasso on a report of a suspected shoplifter who refused to leave at approximately 7:17 p.m. that day.
Officials said the person, later identified as Evans, allegedly refused to obey verbal commands and she physically resisted when officers attempted to take her into custody.
“Evans stomped on an officer's foot and bit his finger, although, fortunately, she didn't cause them any significant injury,” according to wording in the release.
