October 4, 1943 - April 1, 2024 Vacaville

Laura Lee (Walker) Carlson was born on October 4th, 1943 in St. Helena, California. Her parents were James E. ( Jim) and Dortha (Dottie) Walker.

After moving to Alaska and Napa they made it to Fairfield in 1955. Laura graduated from Armijo High School in 1961 where she was a cheerleader. After graduating, she met Richard Lozano with whom she had two children. They lived in Fairfield, where Laura became a medical transcriptionist. She worked for Fairfield Medical Group and Northbay Hospital for her entire career both in transcription and Management. She was an active member of Soroptomist and was involved in many community organizations.

In 1994, Laura married Richard “Kent” Carlson. Together they retired and spent their golden years traveling, playing golf, bowling, and most important to them, spending time with their family. They took joy in bringing the grandkids back to Kent’s home town of Cheyenne, Wyoming each year. The kids still talk about those road trips with “Gma” and “Papa”. Laura loved gardening and was so proud of her tulips, paper whites and freesias. Laura was a huge part of all her grandkids lives. She taught them how to bake and golf, and took them to and from school. She even went with her granddaughter Alix as a chaperone on a trip to Spain and France. One of the biggest legacies she’s left to her grandkids is how important it is to give of your time to those less fortunate. Each year, she would take a grandchild to adopt a grandparent for the holidays, teaching the importance of showing compassion for our elderly. In her retirement she spent many years volunteering for the Senior Center and served with The Vacaville Commission on Aging.

One of Laura’s biggest accomplishments was being the matriarch of her large family of 2 children, 7 grand children, and 4 great grandchildren. Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve were always at Gma’s and were never missed. When the chaos ensued, Laura was in her happy place. She loved bragging about how crazy it got in her house on the holidays. The truest testament of her love and legacy was the room full of kids, grandkids and great grandkids all surrounding her as she peacefully passed in her home. Just like many Thanksgivings and Christmas Eves of the past, she was surrounded by a beautiful chaos.

Laura is survived by her husband, Kent Carlson, brother Larry Walker (Renee), Son Jeff Lozano (Cathy), daughter Toni Parkhurst, Grandkids Stephanie Siverling (Matt), Alyssa Lozano, Tyler Lozano, Rebecca Lozano, and their mother Lisa Lozano, Dylan Davies, Josh Parkhurst (Alley), and Alix Parkhurst, great grandkids Sadie, Amelia, Henry, and Buck.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jim Walker, and her mother Dottie (Walker) McDonald.

A service and celebration of Laura’s life and legacy will be held on Friday, April 12th at 11:00 AM at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 West Texas Street, Fairfield with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, Laura would love a donation to the organization of your choice, to the SPCA, or simply an act of kindness.

Arrangements Entrusted to Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
