Falls Flowers prepares to branch out
Shop to relocate to Midvale Avenue this spring at new space named Vault + Vine
EAST FALLS >> Things are budding all over this spring for Falls Flowers in East Falls.
Currently located at 3421 Conrad St., its new home come May will be 3507 Midvale Ave. (formerly Bargain Thrift).
Owner Peicha Chang said her current retail space is approximately 200 square feet, which severely limits howmuch product she can carry.
“Right now, we are located on a secondary commercial corridor, whereas our new location on Mid- vale Avenue will be highly visible,” she said. “We’ll be leaving our current location when we move, focusing all of our energy on our new 4,600-square-foot space named Vault + Vine.”
Before she founded Falls Flowers, Chang was a designer and manager at Bow Street Flowers, a floral design shop in Boston. Clients included world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Harvard University and other high-end clients from the prestigious Beacon Hill area. At Bow Street, Chang honed her design sensibilities and discovered her love of garden-style design.
Chang opened Falls Flowers in October 2009, choosing to open the business in East Falls primarily because she also lives in the neighborhood.
“I believe it’s important as a business owner to do everything possible to connect to the neighborhood, which in my case includes living and working in the same place,” she said.
Falls Flowers has offered a floral and gift selection that focuses on locally produced goods, including flowers from local flower farmers such as Chicory Florals and Jig-Bee, chocolates from John & Kiras and jewelry by Saffron Creations. The shop “lives” sustainably and is a certified B corporation. In addition to expanding its floral (retail and event), plant and gift offerings, Chang is planning for a small café area and a gathering/workshop space. Phase two of the expansion, set for summer 2018, will include a small nursery and outdoor seating area.
To help with funding for the expansion, Chang set up an Indiegogo campaign on the web and has raised $7,000 to date.
“We’re asking our neighbors to show support for this project and get us to the finish line. By doing so, theywill be helping to build a community gathering space, and they will be voting with their dollars that this is something they want for East Falls,” she said.
