Hymn sing to support Fourth of July parade.
MANAYUNK >> As a preevent to the 21st Ward Independence Day Parade of Sunday Schools and Churches, all people who love to sing or who enjoy inspiring music are invited to attend an evening of song and praise at the 24th annual Samuel Lawson Hymn Sing sponsored by the 21st Ward Fourth of July Association Sunday, June 4, at 7:15 p.m.
The Samuel Lawson Hymn Sing will be held at St. John the Baptist, 146 Rector St., Manayunk. Carpooling is recommended. Street parking is available in the neighborhood.
The public is invited to join in singing praises to God and to fellowship as St. John the Baptist, under the pastorate of the Rev. Msgr. Kevin C. Lawrence, will present the Samuel Lawson (Fourth of July parade founder) Memorial Tablet to Ridge Avenue United Methodist Church (RAUM), the lead church in the 2017 parade, under the pastorate of Debra Coulbourn.
St. John’s Choir, St. John’s Guitar Group and the RAUM Praise Team will share their music ministries and talents via special songs.
According to association tradition, the lead church chooses the parade theme. Ridge Avenue United Methodist Church, celebrating its 170th anniversary, has chosen, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity” (Psalms 133:1) as the parade theme.
Refreshments and fellowship will be enjoyed following the hymn sing.

The next meeting to finalize plans for the Fourth of July Parade will be held at Ridge Avenue United Methodist, 7811 Ridge Ave., Roxborough, Thursday, June 22, at 7 p.m.
