Hospital ranked among top in nation for patient safety
ROXBOROUGH >> Roxborough Memorial Hospital is again a recipient of the Healthgrades 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award, a designation that recognizes superior performance in hospitals that have prevented serious, potentially avoidable complications for patients during hospital stays.
The distinction places Roxborough Memorial Hospital among the top 5 percent of all acute care hospitals in the nation, reporting patient safety data for its excellent performance as evaluated by Healthgrades. Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals and has recognized Roxborough Memorial as the only hospital in the City of Philadelphia to be ranked in that top percentage.
“I am proud of our hospital staff for providing such excellent care to our community, friends and family. To be recognized among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the county is a humbling reward for our hard-working team, but more importantly, peace of mind for our patients,” said Dr. Catherine Cahill, Roxborough Memorial Hospital general surgeon and wound care director. “We will continue to strive for perfection when it comes to patient safety and quality care.”
During the 2013-2015 study period, Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the Patient Safety Excellence Award were, on average:
• 40.0 percent less likely to experience an accidental puncture or laceration during a procedure than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals;
• 44.6 percent less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals;
• 54.4 percent less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired at the hospital than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals; and
• 50.2 percent less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.
