Women’s History Month Event

The Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion will present a onewoman performanc­e highlighti­ng the work of Louisa May Alcott as part of Women’s History Month.

A live performanc­e of one of Alcott’s Civil War nursing stories as interprete­d by Josh Hitchens will be presented in the parlor. Christina Higgins will portray the nurse in a one-woman performanc­e.

Preceding the Saturday and Sunday performanc­es, Dr. Patricia D’Antonio, director of the University of Pennsylvan­ia’s Barbara Bates Center for Nursing, will give an account of nursing practices in the 19th century.

Before Friday’s play, Hitchens, the mansion’s creative director, will talk about Alcott’s “Hospital Sketches” and Civil Warera nursing practices.

Performanc­es will take place Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m.
