Women’s History Month Event
The Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion will present a onewoman performance highlighting the work of Louisa May Alcott as part of Women’s History Month.
A live performance of one of Alcott’s Civil War nursing stories as interpreted by Josh Hitchens will be presented in the parlor. Christina Higgins will portray the nurse in a one-woman performance.
Preceding the Saturday and Sunday performances, Dr. Patricia D’Antonio, director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Barbara Bates Center for Nursing, will give an account of nursing practices in the 19th century.
Before Friday’s play, Hitchens, the mansion’s creative director, will talk about Alcott’s “Hospital Sketches” and Civil Warera nursing practices.
Performances will take place Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m.
