5 judicial appointments for Riverside, SB courts
Three Inland Empire residents and two from Orange County, all Democrats, have been tapped by Gov. Gavin Newsom for judgeships in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
Corona resident Mona M. Nemat, 46, has been appointed to serve in the Riverside County Superior Court. She has been a partner at Best Best & Krieger since 2022 and was a shareholder at the law office of Brissman & Nemat from 2013 to 2022. Nemat fills the vacancy created when Judge Roger A. Luebs retired. Rancho Cucamonga resident Joshlyn R. Pulliam, 44, also will preside in the Riverside County Superior Court. She has served as a deputy district attorney at the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office since 2007. Pulliam fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge David M. Chapman.
Lake Forest resident Walter H. Kubelun, 59, also will serve as a judge at Riverside County Superior Court. He fills the vacancy created when Judge James T. Latting retired. Kubelun has served as a commissioner at the Riverside County Superior Court since 2007 and was a deputy district attorney at the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office from 2000 to 2007.
Beaumont resident Damian G. Garcia, 46, has been appointed judge in the San Bernardino County Superior Court. Garcia has been a partner and attorney at Banks, Garcia and Janis since 2008. Garcia also fills a vacancy at the court, this time that of Judge Dwight W. Moore, who also retired.
Yorba Linda resident Kory E. Mathewson, 51, also has been appointed to serve as a judge in the San Bernardino County Superior Court. He has been a sole practitioner since 2000 and is filling a vacancy left by Judge Pamela P. King who retired.
The compensation for each of these judgeships is $225,074 annually.
Rialto resident Jose Solorzano, 39, has been reappointed by Newsom to the State Independent Living Council. He has served on the council since 2019. Solorzano has been a Community Health Representative at the Inland Empire Health Plan since 2017. Solorzano is a Democrat.
