Weekend temperatures should reach triple digits
Conditions are expected to begin cooling by the middle of next week
A high pressure system is expected to make its way across Southern California this weekend, bringing with it extremely high temperatures and humidity — especially inland.
Triple digit temperatures in the Inland Empire and valley areas will arrive by Saturday, with extreme heat warnings issued by the National Weather Service in Palm Springs and Coachella Valley over the weekend.
“Saturday will be the warmest day for all areas across the region,” said NWS meteorologist Tyler Salas.
In Fontana, temperatures will climb into the high 90s by today, and jump to 100 on Saturday and Sunday. San Fernando residents will feel a similar heatwave in the mids 90s today before peaking with 101 on Saturday.
Moisture carried in by the system will bring a slight chance of afternoon and early evening thunderstorms to the mountains and deserts through early next week. By Thursday afternoon, storms had already touched down in the Mojave Desert, near Victorville and Barstow.
The metropolitan areas in
Los Angeles and Orange counties won’t reach the same highs as inland communities, but will still get some decent heat.
Yorba Linda and Anaheim areas will see conditions in the mid-to-high 80s today, and they will climb into the low 90s for Saturday and Sunday.
Pasadena will hit even higher temperatures, reaching into the low 90s today and quickly jumping to highs of 100 for the weekend.
Communities along the coastline will see less dramatic temperatures with night and morning clouds and fog more restricted to coastal areas, keeping the temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s.
Inland temperatures should begin to cool down by midweek starting on Monday, Salas said, but the change won’t be noticeable until Wednesday.
