Sassoon to serve as next Norco city manager
Rancho Cucamonga administrator will take over in August
The Norco City Council will appoint Lori Sassoon as city manager at today’s meeting, a news release said.
Sassoon will be paid $235,000 a year, according to a proposed employment agreement. Sassoon would start Aug. 29.
The announcement follows the retirement of longtime City Manager Andy Okoro, who has worked for Norco since 2003 and became
city manager in 2013. Okoro has extended his contract through August.
Sassoon has been the deputy city manager of administrative services in Rancho Cucamonga. She brings 30 years of extensive municipal leadership experience to the city, officials said. She has served in Rancho Cucamonga since 2012, leading various departments including finance, human resources, innovation and technology, procurement and special districts administration. Before that, she served as city manager of Villa Park and as assistant city manager of San Bernardino.
She has a bachelor of arts in political science from Cal Poly Pomona and a master of arts degree in public administration from Cal State San Bernardino.
Mayor Greg Newton said in the release that Sassoon is “a highly respected and accomplished” professional.
“The Norco City Council has full confidence in her ability to lead our organization as we embrace challenges and pursue opportunities to better our community and protect our large-lot, animalkeeping lifestyle,” Newton said.
“While Mr. Okoro is leaving an exceptional legacy, we are excited to welcome Ms. Sassoon to Horsetown USA and support her as she excels as the next City Manager.”
Sassoon said she looks forward to collaborating with city officials and residents to “build upon the organization’s impressive reputation.”
”As City Manager, I will be dedicated to maintaining Norco’s fiscal health, enhancing service delivery, strengthening the local economy, investing in infrastructure, and ultimately working to preserve Norco’s unique, rural lifestyle for future generations,” she said in the release.
