Biden's climate change promises and the grid

-

Re “Biden is vowing ‘strong’ climate action amid setbacks” (July 17):

Biden is still opposing climate change for the good of the planet. Good luck with that. Only this morning Texas has only allowed certain hours for electric cars to charge due to a heatwave. This is only the start. Our electric grids will not be able to handle the extra electricity needed and will crash. Kudos to Sen. Joe Manchin for being strong with his convictions against spending all this money that the Biden administration wants for their climate change initiative. Enough. Too much money has been spent on social projects, which has caused major inflation. We were energy independent, now the Biden administration sends a percentage of our emergency oil to China. Why? What was the reason? What did we receive in return from China? We are now begging Saudi Arabia for oil. How embarrassing.

State stimulus checks

Re “Some seniors, disabled will not get state payments” (July 17):

It’s a shame that low-income Californians, who are most affected by higher gas prices but do not make enough to pay state taxes, will not receive payments.

The mendacious state Legislature uses the excuse that they could not figure out how to administer such payments. If they really wanted to help all those who are paying more at the pump, they could have temporarily suspended the state gas tax.

But that would not allow for the grand gesture of the governor and his party to disburse more money to the masses, and thereby keep their party members happy.

Divided by race

Will Coggin’s piece “State wastes millions on critical race theory” (July 17) reveals outrageous but not at all surprising California expenditures of taxpayer money on wasteful and destructive programs that in a definitionally racist manner assume that Californians, by virtue of nothing more than their skin color, are fundamentally racist.

This ongoing effort threatens to endlessly divide us by race.

I call on all falsely accused Californians to summon the courage to refuse to accept the insulting assumption in this divisive movement that they are inherently racist.
