New instructor joins men's mental health program in the IE
The Inland Empire Men’s Mental Health Program has added a new instructor to its team.
Yamileth Monarrez, a senior at UC Riverside, graduates in December. She spent a semester abroad at London South Bank University.
“At UCR I’ve served as a mentor to freshmen,” she said. “I really enjoy helping people and I wanted to work for IE Men’s Mental Health because the program emphasizes the need to de-stigmatize mental health issues so that people can get the help they need.”
The program offers free mental health training for people who would like to learn the best ways to approach friends or family members who might be struggling with mental health problems but aren’t sure about what to say or do.

Cal State SB'S Upward Bound program lands $1.6M public grant
Nearly $1.6 million is heading to Cal State San Bernardino’s Upward Bound Program over the next five years.
The program provides one-on-one academic guidance, tutoring, access to college campus visits and real-life college experiences and instruction to help young people complete high school and prepare for college.
Upward Bound is a federal TRIO program designed to help disadvantaged students. It includes eight programs targeted at low-income, first-generation college students and people with disabilities from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs.
This $1,562,400 grant will help CSUSB provide academic support to qualifying students from Carter, Eisenhower, and Rialto high schools within the Rialto Unified Schools District.
“Programs like the Upward Bound Program are crucial to giving all students an opportunity to succeed by addressing our nation’s education equity gaps,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar, who secured the grant.
