The crossover games were included to ensure schools could their keep traditiona­l city rivalry games in place.

“I think everyone agreed this was a smart step to take to save some of the headaches involved in scheduling games every year,” Mott said. “A lot of teams had to go way out of the area just to get a game, so this will make thing a bit easier and still allow the teams the flexibilit­y to round out the rest of their schedule.”

Conference­s between existing leagues have gained popularity in recent years, especially in the Inland area. The region already has the Raincross and Arrowhead conference­s, each of which are split into three separate leagues adjusted every two years based on results. “Another goal with the new conference is to open up opportunit­ies for all of our programs,” Mott explained. “We believe this is a positive step for everyone involved and hope that every program can benefit from it.”

A league like few others

The upper tier of the Big West Conference has created quite a buzz since the announceme­nt because it brings together several of the Inland area’s most successful football programs. Many are calling it the top public school league in the state and one of the best in the nation. The numbers from last season back that claim.
