Trump raid is a horrible travesty for our nation

The front-page headline should have read, “Our country is officially a third-world banana republic.” Now, even a former president, and more, a potential opponent in the 2024 election, is having their home raided. Our great country will not survive if this continues.

More Internal Revenue agents are a waste

Some 87,000 IRS investigators are to be added, with the explanation: “they will only go after people making over $400,000?”

Let’s go back to 2009, when similar words were used to describe the IRS harassment against people and organizations with conservative beliefs: “we are fair, and don’t do that.”

Groups were organized, including the tea party, demanding hearings. The outcome of the hearings showed the IRS was targeting certain people and organizations. The head of the IRS, Loris Learner, pleaded the 5th and received no punishment while walking away with full retirement and benefits during the Obama tenure. The IRS is powerful, and to believe all 87,000 will only go after the $400,000 earners defies common sense.

Civil Service Commission hearing on DA’S office

Re “Gascón aide says she fears for safety if hearing is public” (Aug. 11):

George Gascón’s aide says she fears for her safety if the Civil Service Commission hearing is public.

My reaction to her concern is “welcome to the club.” Angelenos live in constant fear now because of her boss. Gascón’s revolving door criminal justice system experiment has failed miserably. He has managed to empower violent criminals into thinking that they’re in charge of our city now. And thanks to Gascón, they clearly are.

‘Inflation Reduction Act’

My objection is having a bill that encompasses so many different issues negotiated in the back room. Hundreds of pages voted on in 13 days.

Where are the congressional committees examining the language on true impact?

Instead, we will see ads that Republicans voted against lower drug prices and Democrats voted to subsidize and raise energy prices for climate change subsidies. All is very complex, and this is not what I expect my representatives to do, toe a party line. My wish is every single bill addresses one issue and that it goes through hearings and public comment. Is that asking too much?

No open borders

Re “In defense of open borders” (Aug. 7):

Hey, Sal, why don’t you go up to L.A. and walk around town and look at the homeless people who need food and shelter? Then tell me why we are spending billions on looking after people from other countries who cannot stand up for themselves in their own county and decide to come here and live off welfare?

You are a disgrace to the hardworking, taxpaying people of the U.S.A.
