Dixon-waters leads USC in Pac-12 opener
Reese Dixon-waters scored 10 of his career-high 17 points in a 20-0 run in the second half that lifted USC to a 66-51 win at Cal in the Pac-12 Conference opener Wednesday night.
The Trojans (5-3) were clinging to a 46-43 lead midway through the sec- ond half when Dixon-wa- ters made a pair of free throws to start the barrage. He added a three-point play and a 3-pointer 28 seconds apart as the run reached 10 and the lead was 56-43 at the 7:21 mark.
Joshua Morgan capped the run with a jumper before Devin Askew scored for the Golden Bears (0-8) to end a drought of 10 minutes. The Bears missed 11 straight shots in what was just a horrible shooting night for the home team.
Morgan and Drew Peterson both added 14 points for the Trojans. Morgan also contributed to Cal’s shooting woes with six blocks.
Askew had 23 points for Cal, which did not get a point from the bench.

NO. 13 TENNESSEE 76, MCNEESE STATE 40 >> Santiago Vescovi scored 16 points to lead the Volunteers (61) over the Cowboys (2-6) in Knoxville, Tenn.
NOTRE DAME 70, NO. 20 MICHIGAN STATE 52 >> Cormac Ryan scored 20 of his 23 points in the first half as the Fighting Irish (61) cruised over the Spartans (5-3) in South Bend, Ind. Ryan made all six of his 3-point attempts to tie a school record for most 3’s without a miss in a game.
NO. 23 IOWA 63, NORTH DAKORA 44 >> Caleb Grill scored 16 points as the Cyclones (6-1) shook off a sluggish first half and defeated the Fighting Hawks (5-4) in Ames, Iowa.
COLORADO STATE 87, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 71 >> John Tonje scored 23 points as the Rams (6-2) beat the Lions (6-3) in Fort Collins, Colo. The Lions (63) were led in scoring by Cameron Shelton, who finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds and four assists.
