No. 1 Alabama bounces back to beat Georgia by 49 points

Brandon Miller scored 21 points, Nick Pringle had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Mark Sears made five 3-pointers in the first half to lead No. 1 Alabama to a 108-59 romp over visiting Georgia on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide (23-4, 13-1 SEC) rebounded from their first SEC loss by racing to a 54-25 halftime lead and making 16 of 34 3s (47.1%) en route to a season scoring high.

Alabama was coming off a 68-59 loss at No. 10 Tennessee on Wednesday night after rising to No. 1 for only the second time in program history and first in 20 years.

The Bulldogs (16-11, 6-8) hit a lower percentage from the free-throw line than Alabama did from 3-point range. Georgia was 13 of 30 (43.3%) on foul shots.

Justin Hill led Georgia with 17 points.

NO. 5 KANSAS 87, NO. 9 BAYLOR 71 >> Dajuan Harris scored all 14 of his points in the second half as the host Jayhawks stormed back from a double-digit halftime deficit and beat the Bears.

Kansas (22-5, 10-4 Big 12) outscored Baylor 55-26 in the second half. Jalen Wilson led Kansas with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Baylor (20-7, 9-5) got nearly all of its scoring from its three-guard combo of Adam Flagler (22 points) Keyonte George (20 points) and LJ Cryer (15 points).

NO. 6 TEXAS 85, OKLAHOMA 83, OT >> Sir’jabari Rice scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the second half and overtime, and the host Longhorns held off the Sooners.

Rice’s fourth 3-pointer of the game gave Texas an 84-77 lead with 2:26 left in overtime.

Oklahoma, however, had a chance to tie or win when Texas’ Tyrese Hunter missed one of two free throws with 6.8 seconds left. But Sam Godwin missed a shot from near the rim.

Marcus Carr added 17 points for Texas (21-6, 10-4 Big 12), and Timmy Allen had 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Grant Sherfield led Oklahoma (13-14, 3-11) with 18 points.

KENTUCKY 66, NO. 10 TENNESSEE 54 >> Cason Wallace and Oscar Tshiebwe each scored 16 points and the Wildcats topped the visiting Volunteers.

Tennessee (20-7, 9-5 SEC), coming off its win over Alabama, trailed by 20 points at halftime.

Kentucky (18-9, 9-5) earned its first regularsea­son sweep of Tennessee since the 2011-12 season.

NO. 7 VIRGINIA 57, NOTRE DAME 55 >> Kihei Clark scored 15 points, including a pair of critical free throws with 22.6 seconds left, and the Cavaliers scored a home victory over the Fighting Irish.

With Notre Dame closing to 55-54, Clark converted both ends of a oneand-one. Trey Wertz made the front end of a one-andone with 3.9 seconds left for the Fighting Irish, but missed the second.

Armaan Franklin added 12 points for Virginia (21-4, 13-3 ACC).

Nate Laszewski had 18 points for Notre Dame (1017, 2-14), which is 0-10 away from home this season.

NO. 8 ARIZONA 78, COLORADO 68 >> Oumar Ballo had 18 points and 16 rebounds, Cedric Henderson Jr. added 15 points and the host Wildcats dominated inside to beat the Buffaloes.

Arizona (24-4, 13-4 Pac12) opened with a rash of turnovers, falling into an early 12-point hole. The Wildcats righted themselves with a big run and slogged through a sloweddown second half by shutting down Colorado.

Henderson and Ballo picked up the slack with leading scorer Azuoulas Tubelis in foul trouble, combining to hit 14 of 21 shots. Those two helped Arizona outscore Colorado 40-24 in the paint.

Tristan da Silva had 18 points for Colorado (15-13, 7-10), which shot 38%.

NO. 12 KANSAS STATE 61, NO. 19 IOWA STATE 55 >> Markquis Nowell hit a 3-pointer from near midcourt with 2:42 remaining to help the Wildcats beat the visiting Cyclones.

Nowell finished with 20 points for Kansas State (20-7, 8-6 Big 12).

Aljaž Kunc led Iowa State (17-9, 8-6) with 15 points.

NO. 13 GONZAGA 97, PEPPERDINE 88 >> Drew Timme scored 22 of his 34 points in the second half and Julian Strawther added 28 points as the visiting Bulldogs beat Pepperdine to extend their winning streak over the Waves to 45 games.

Gonzaga (23-5, 12-2 WCC) hasn’t lost to Pepperdine (9-10, 2-12) since Jan. 18, 2002 and has won 20 straight on the road against the Waves.

Timme’s last basket, a layup that gave the Gonzaga a 78-70 lead with 5:30 to play, moved him past Bill Cartwright, who scored 2,116 points for San Francisco (1975-79), into eighth on the WCC’S career scoring list with 2,117.

Houston Mallette led the Waves with 22 points. Jevon Porter and Maxwell Lewis added 20 points each.

NO. 14 INDIANA 71, ILLINOIS 68 >> Trayce Jackson-davis finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds, Jalen Hood Schifino made two free throws with 30.7 seconds left, and the host Hoosiers rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit to beat the Fighting Illini.

Indiana (19-8, 10-6 Big Ten) has won nine of 11 overall and 15 straight on its homecourt.

Matthew Mayer scored 24 for Illinois (17-9, 8-7).

NO. 15 MIAMI 96, WAKE FOREST 87 >> Isaiah Wong scored 27 points and Nijel Pack finished with 24 in the Hurricanes’ home win over the Demon Deacons.

Norchard Omier added 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting for Miami (22-5, 13-4 ACC), which won its sixth straight and improved to 15-0 at home.

Tyree Appleby scored 15 points for Wake Forest (1710, 9-7).

NO. 16 XAVIER 82, DEPAUL 68 >> Jack Nunge had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Musketeers beat the visiting Blue Demons.

Xavier (20-7, 12-4 Big East) reached the 20-win mark for the 34th time in school history, 32 of which have come since the 198283 season.

Umoja Gibson had 17 points for Depaul (9-18, 3-13), which lost its eighth in a row.

NO. 18 CREIGHTON 77, ST. JOHN’S 67 >> Arthur Kaluma hit three straight 3-pointers down the stretch and the Bluejays (18-9, 12-4 Big East) defeated the host Red Storm (16-12, 6-11) for their ninth win in 10 games.

ARIZONA ST. 67, UTAH 59 >> Warren Washington scored 18 points and the Sun Devils topped the visiting Utes.

Colorado beat Arizona State 67-59 on Thursday night creating urgency for the Sun Devils (19-9, 10-7 Pac-12) to beat the Utes (1711, 10-7) as they vie for a first-round bye in the conference tournament.

UC RIVERSIDE 74, UC SANTA BARBARA 63 >> Lachlan Olbrich scored 23 points and the Highlander­s won at home over the Gauchos.

Olbrich added six rebounds and Flynn Cameron had 21 points, five rebounds and five assists for UC Riverside (18-10, 11-5 Big West).

Andre Kelly led UCSB (20-6, 11-4) with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Women

NO. 6 UCONN 60, NO. 14 VILLANOVA 51 >> Lou Lopez Sénéchal scored 22 points to lead the visiting Huskies to a victory over Maddy Siegrist and the Wildcats.

Dorka Juhász added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Aaliyah Edwards had 13 points and 14 boards for Uconn (24-4, 16-1 Big East).

Siegrist, the nation’s leading scorer at 29.4 points per game coming in, had 21 points for Villanova (23-5, 14-3), which lost just its second contest in the last 16 — both to the Huskies.
