Karma’s assembly line to include EV trucks
Electric trucks will soon be part of the automotive assembly line in Moreno Valley.
The city announced in early February that Luxembourg-based B-ON will be manufacturing its electric light-commercial trucks at Karma Automotive’s Moreno Valley facility on North Perris Boulevard.
“Demand for our electric light commercial vehicles is quickly expected to outstrip our capacity to build them in Germany alone,” said Stefan Krause, founder, chairman and chief executive of B-ON. “We knew we would need to expand production capacity this year and Karma’s facility perfectly positions us to address the booming North and South American markets while also giving us access to their worldclass workforce and capabilities.”
Irvine-based Karma, which opened its automotive assembly line in 2015, owns a 555,000-square-foot plant, which has the capacity to make 30,000 vehicles per year.
Production of B-ON’S trucks will begin later this year with full-scale production starting in 2024. Karma said it has the capacity to employ 330 people per shift during full production.
“Our partnership with B-ON … will not only place Karma as a leader in the customized flexible manufacturing space but will also put the city of Moreno Valley on the global stage as an ideal environment for growth and business opportunities,” said Jeff Wawryzniak, Karma’s CEO.
