Auto Club Speedway sells for $543 million

NASCAR has sold Auto Club Speedway in Fontana for a reported $543 million, according to the commercial real estate data provider Vizzda.

An unknown number of acres on the 633-acre property was sold to Hillwood Development Co., a Dallasbased investor in commercial real estate.

Sunday’s scheduled Pala Casino 400 was said to be the last for NASCAR on the 2-mile track as the site will be redeveloped.

Hillwood which is owned by Ross Perot Jr., has partnered with NASCAR on other properties, including the Daytona International Speedway, where the two are working on a redevelopment of 200 acres adjacent to the track.

The Sports Business Journal reported Friday that NASCAR has been divesting land “as it sought to find new revenue streams and better utilize the huge amount of acreage it owns across the country.”

RV campground adds 3,500 solar panels

Thousand Trails Wilderness Lakes, a campground destination in Menifee, has completed an RV storage project topped with nearly 3,500 solar panels.

The company says the panels will generate about 50% of the total energy used across the campground. The entire project is 1,469 kilowatts and is expected to produce roughly 2.4 million kilowatt hours of green energy per year, Thousand Trails representatives said.

The solar panels, installed in coordination with DSD Renewables and Black Bear Energy, cover roughly 82,000 square feet and cover the top of the newly installed RV storage facilities.

The covered storage area, which has room for rigs ranging from 30 to 45 feet, has controlled access, security cameras and monthto-month availability. Public rental rates start at $250 per month.

The energy produced from the new solar panels will be used across the campground and in common areas such as the swimming pool, two hot tubs, a clubhouse, restaurant, fitness center and game room.
