Band concert will feature country and Western music

-

“America’s Country Music” is the theme for the Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band’s January concert.

The performance, featuring country and Western movie themes and songs by country music recording artists, is 7:30 p.m. Monday at Gardiner W. Spring Auditorium on the campus of Chaffey High School. 1245 N. Euclid Ave., Ontario. Admission is free.

Before the concert, the Woodwind Celebration Ensemble will play beginning at 7 p.m. in the lobby, where there will be free coffee and cookies.

Featured soloists will be Kim Eberhardt, a Dolly Parton tribute singer, and country and Western singer Bob Morley.

Eberhardt, who is also an actress, dancer and choreographer, will sing four Dolly Parton songs — “Two Doors Down,” “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” according to a news release. Her show business career has taken her all over the world.

Morley, who started his own rock’n’roll band in the 1950s, has traveled nationally as a solo performer, with a gospel quartet and with a folk trio. He has performed in every state and a half dozen foreign countries, including a concert tour in the Soviet Union during the Cold War years and one in China, according to the news release.

As an ordained United Methodist minister, he served churches in Southern California and Hawaii over his 43-year career.

In the Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band’s concert, he will sing Johnny Cash’s hit song “Folsom Prison Blues”; Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire”; and “Homesick,” a song by Gabe Petrocelli, the Ontario band’s director.

The band will play “Cowboy Melodies,” “Themes from the Grand Canyon Suite” and “Hill Country Celebration,” and the concert will conclude with the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans theme song “Happy Trails.”

Narrating the program will be Sue Ovitt, a school board member of the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, and teacher teacher Lara Porter.

The concert will also be broadcast on local Ontario cable Channel 3.
