Five Inland teams vying for CIF Southern Section dual meet titles tonight

Five Inland wrestling teams will take to the mat tonight at 7 looking to claim CIF Southern Section dual meet titles.

The Etiwanda and Chino boys teams are seeking their program’s second consecutiv­e dual meet section championsh­ip.

Etiwanda captured the Division 3 title last season and has advanced to this year’s Division 2 championsh­ip match as the No. 1 seed. The Eagles host No. 3-seeded San Clemente in tonight’s title bout.

Etiwanda advanced to the finals with wins Saturday over Ramona, Aliso Niguel and Millikan. The Eagles are led by seniors Evan Manzo (165), Austin Mcswain (132) and Santiago Loera (150), and junior Jacob Bell (138).

San Clemente reached the finals with wins over Long Beach Poly, Damien and Chaminade. The Tritons are seeking the program’s fourth dual meet championsh­ip in five years. San Clemente won the Division 4 title in 2002 and Division 3 titles in 2021 and 2022.

Chino claimed the Division 5 championsh­ip last season and has reached this year’s Division 4 championsh­ip bout as the No. 1 seed. The Cowboys host No. 2-seeded Santa Fe in tonight’s title match.

Chino advanced to the finals with wins Saturday over Hueneme, Laguna Beach and Western. The Cowboys are led by senior Nathan Blanco (190), junior Michael Vassalle (175), and sophomores Jonathan Madera (120) and Nathan Cauwel (138).

Santa Fe reached the finals with wins over Montclair, El Dorado and Sonora. The Chiefs are seeking the program’s fourth dual meet championsh­ip and third in past four seasons.

The Canyon Springs boys team is seeking the program’s fourth dual meet section championsh­ip and first since 2002. The Cougars are the No. 2 seed in Division 1 and will host Mayfair in tonight’s championsh­ip match.

Canyon Springs advanced to the finals with wins Saturday over Downey, Newport Harbor and Servite. The Cougars are led by seniors Richard Murillo (132), David Fletes (120) and Sonny Kling (182), and freshman Max Murillo (113).

Mayfair reached the finals with wins over Norco, Paloma Valley and Camarillo. The Monsoons are seeking the program’s fourth dual meet championsh­ip and first since 2009.

A pair of Inland girls teams will battle for the Division 2 championsh­ip, as Paloma Valley hosts Montclair in tonight’s final. Both teams are seeking their program’s first dual meet section championsh­ip.

Paloma Valley is the No. 2 seed and advanced to the finals with wins Saturday over Aliso Niguel, Cerritos and Oxnard Pacifica. The Wildcats are led by senior Athena Saenz Franco, and sophomores Jianna Alex Rivera, Gabriela Jimenez and Melissa Moreno.

Montclair reached the finals with wins over Placentia Valencia, Colony and Santa Fe. The Cavaliers are led by seniors Makynna Loepp, Kathy Castro, Julie Lopez and Sage O’toole.
