Grandfathe­rs for Golf plans Memorial Tourney

Grandfathe­rs for Golf, a nonprofit based in the Hemet-san Jacinto area that offers free golf lessons for children and teenagers, will have its Memorial Tourney on March 8 at the Soboba Springs Golf Course in San Jacinto.

The golf tournament, the organizati­on’s major fundraiser, will open with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. The four-man scramble format is open to golfers of any skill level, according to a news release.

The cost is $125 per person (the regular rate at Soboba Springs Golf Course Friday through Sunday) and is tax-deductible. Entry fee provides 18 holes of golf, food and prizes for first, second and third places, as well as longest drive and closest to the pin and senior longest drive and closest to the pin.

The tournament is limited to 144 players.

Grandfathe­rs is a volunteer organizati­on, with no salaries for organizers and no fees charged to students in the program. The nonprofit has been operating for more than 20 years in the Hemetsan Jacinto area, teaching golf to hundreds of young people, according to the news release.

In addition to free lessons, each student receives a golf bag, clubs, golf balls and a uniform.

In addition to inviting golfers to sign up for the March 8 Memorial Tourney, Grandfathe­rs for Golf is seeking golfers to volunteer as instructor­s with the organizati­on.

Golfers with any level of expertise are welcome to join the program, to help with one afternoon class per week, according to the news release.

The program’s winter session classes are at the Golden Era Golf Course, 19871 Gilman Springs Road, San Jacinto.
