Lopez, Bozanic receive No. 2 seeds for the state meet

Hamilton senior Olivia Lopez and Liberty sophomore Anna Bozanic received the No. 2 seed in their respective weight classes when the brackets for this year’s CIF State girls wrestling championsh­ip meet were released Monday evening.

The state meet will take place Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 22-24) at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfiel­d.

Lopez placed third at 100 pounds last year and is the No. 2 seed in the 105-pound bracket this season after claiming the second CIF Southern Section Masters Meet title of her career. Lopez opens the meet Thursday morning against Amador Valley’s Eliana Caro.

The No. 1 seed in the 105-pound bracket is Walnut’s Anaya Falcon, who has never lost a match in her high school career. Lopez and Falcon squared off at the Queen of the Hill invitation­al in December, and Falcon won the title match with a 6-1 decision.

Bozanic placed third at 235 pounds at last year’s state meet and is the No. 2 seed in that division this season. Bozanic will open against American Canyon’s Aiyanna Beane on Thursday.

Canyon Springs senior Kyree Rubio finished fourth at 235 pounds last season and picked up the No. 3 seed in the 190-pound bracket this season. Rubio opens the state meet Thursday against Granite Bay’s Julia Mendoza.

Hillcrest senior Mackenzie Muniz placed seventh at 116 pounds last season and is the No. 5 seed in the 115-pound bracket this season. Muniz will square off against Half Moon Bay’s Chloe Manchester on Thursday.

Ayala senior BK Martinez is the No. 5 seed in the 110-pound bracket and opens against San Fernando’s Hailee Moreno on Thursday.

Yucaipa sophomore Zahra Stewart picked up the No. 6 seed in the 120-pound bracket and will face off against Merced’s Jessica Flores on Thursday.

Montclair senior Makynna Loepp is the No. 8 seed in the 130-pound bracket and will square off against Pioneer Valley’s Gabriela Martinez on Thursday.

Corona freshman Jestinah Solomua received the No. 8 seed in the 135-pound bracket and opens against Capuchino’s Mariah Gonzalez on Thursday.

Colony junior Renice Gonzalez placed eighth at 131 pounds at last season’s state meet but did not receive a Top 8 seeding this season. Gonzalez will face San Pedro’s Priscilla Monson on Thursday.
