Trekking in Kyrgyzstan, kitesurfing in glacial lakes and river rafting on the Salmon River are among the subjects of short films featured in the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, to be screened March 15 and 16 in Redlands.

Hosted by the San Gorgonio Wilderness Association, the Redlands screenings will be at 6:30 p.m. both days at the Fox Event Center, 123 Cajon St. Tickets are $30 for each night, and doors open at 6 p.m. A different program of eight films will be offered each night.

Films scheduled for the March 15 screening include “Chronoception,” a film from France about an expedition in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan to ski the Kokshaal-too range; “Going Greenland,” a U.S. film about athletes Rachael Burks and Jessica Baker on a journey along Greenland’s west coast including arctic skiing and a renewable energy sailboat; and “The Ascension Series: Morag Skelton,” a film from the United Kingdom about deaf mountain climber Morag Skelton.

The March 16 lineup includes “Mustafa Ceylan,” a film from Switzerland about a Turkish immigrant who was destined to play football and take over his parents’ kebab restaurant before fate put a pair of skis in his way; “Subterranean,” a Canadian film about two teams of hobbyist cavers poised to break records for the longest and deepest caves in Canada; and “Driving Sweep,” a U.S. film following Katie Veteto as she learns how to “drive sweep” down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is a program of Banff Centre. This year’s tour has screenings planned in more than 50 countries, according to a news release.

The San Gorgonio Wilderness Association hosts the festival in Redlands to raise money and to recruit new volunteers.

The association maintains trails in and around the San Gorgonio Wilderness and the Cucamonga Wilderness for the U.S. Forest Service; provides volunteer foot and equestrian patrols in these wilderness areas; staffs the Barton Flats Visitor Center, the Mill Creek Visitor Center and interpretive sites at Horse Meadows and the Big Falls picnic area in Forest Falls; presents weekly nature talks during the summer at the Greyback Amphitheater in Barton Flats; and manages the wilderness permit system for the Forest Service.
