Aztecs extend Dutcher through '27-28 season

Brian Dutcher, who led San Diego State to the national championsh­ip game last season, has signed a contract extension that will keep him on the Aztecs’ bench through the 2027-28 season.

Dutcher is in his seventh season as head coach, with a 173-55 record, and 25th season overall at SDSU. He was Steve Fisher’s assistant for 18 seasons.

In a statement Wednesday, Dutcher thanked SDSU officials and added, “Our success began 25 years ago when my friend Steve Fisher came to The Mesa and along with my assistant coaches, we have built a program that competes on a national level every night. I got into coaching to affect the lives of young people and to be able to do it at a school and in a city I love, is all anyone can ask for.” PAC-12 WOMEN >> Frida Formann scored 17 points and 18th-ranked Colorado handed Oregon its worst loss of the season, 79-30 in the opening game of the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Quay Miller scored the first four points of the game and the Buffaloes had the last 13 points of the first quarter for a 26-7 lead.

CAL 65, WASHINGTON STATE 44 >> Leilani Mcintosh scored 19 points and the eighth-seeded Bears beat the ninth-seeded Cougars for the third time this season. Ioanna Krimili added 14 points and Ugonne Onyiah had 11 with nine rebounds for Cal (18-13).

• Colorado (22-8), the fifth seed, plays fourthseed­ed and 13th-ranked Oregon State (23-6) in today’s quarterfin­als at noon.

• Cal will play topseeded and No. 2 ranked Stanford (26-4) at 2:30 p.m.

• Second-seeded and fifth-ranked USC (235) will face the winner of Wednesday’s late Arizona-washington game at 6 p.m., and third-seeded UCLA and No. 7 ranked UCLA (24-5) will face the late Utah-arizona State winner at 8:30.

Dedan Thomas scored 19 points and put UNLV ahead for good on a 19-foot jumper with 18.6 seconds left, giving the Rebels a 62-58 victory late on Tuesday night.

It was the fourth win against a ranked team for the surging Rebels (19-10, 12-5 Mountain West), who have won 10 of 11 overall. Keylan Boone had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Elijah Saunders led San Diego State (22-8, 11-6) with 14 points, one of four Aztecs to score in double figures. Jaedon Ledee, who entered first in the conference at 20.8 points per game, was held to 12 on 2-of-12 shooting.

The Rebels held onto the lead until Lamont Butler made a 3 and then stole the ball and put in a layup to tie it at 58 with 44.6 seconds left.

Thomas then answered with his basket to put UNLV back in front for good. UNLV’S Kalib Boone blocked Micah Parrish’s 3-point attempt and Thomas sealed the win with two free throws. NEVADA 76, BOISE STATE 66 >> Hunter Mcintosh scored 26 points off of the bench to lead the Wolf Pack. Jarod Lucas scored 19 points for Nevada (25-6, 12-5 Mountain West Conference). Tyson Degenhart finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for Boise State (21-9, 12-5).

NO. 3 PURDUE 77, NO. 12 ILLINOIS 71 >> Zach Edey had 28 points and eight rebounds as No. 3 Purdue rallied in the second half Tuesday night, becoming the first team in 17 years to win consecutiv­e outright Big Ten regular-season championsh­ips. Fletcher Loyer added 16 points for the Boilermake­rs (27-3, 16-3), who had already clinched at least a share of their second straight conference title with Saturday night’s victory over Michigan State.

The last Big Ten team to win back-to-back outright regular-season crowns was Ohio State in 2006 and 2007.

Braden Smith had 13 points and six assists for Purdue, which improved to 7-0 against ranked opponents this season.

Armando Bacot played in his record 162nd ACC game and the Tar Heels claimed at least a share of the regular-season conference title.

Bacot, a fifth-year player

who holds the school’s record for career rebounds and double-doubles, finished with 14 points and five rebounds.

RJ Davis added 22 points and six assists for North Carolina (24-6, 163).

Kevin Mccullar Jr. had 19 points in his Allen Fieldhouse farewell, Hunter Dickinson added 15 points and 20 rebounds, as the Jayhawks snapped a two-game skid. Nick Timberlake had 18 points for Kansas (22-8, 10-7 Big 12).

FLORIDA 105, NO. 16 ALABAMA 87 >>

Will Richard scored 23 points, Walter Clayton Jr. added 22 and the Gators beat the Tide to stay in contention for a top four seed in the upcoming Southeaste­rn Conference Tournament.

Florida (21-9, 11-6 SEC) won for the 10th time in 13 games and finished 14-1 at home this season.

Mark Sears led Alabama (20-10, 12-5) with 33 points, including 29 in the second half.

NO. 24 SOUTH FLORIDA 85, TULANE 72 >>

Chris Youngblood had 29 points and five assists as the Bulls extended their winning streak to 15 games.

Kasean Pryor scored 13 points and Selton Miguel added 12 for South Florida (23-5, 16-1 American Athletic Conference), the conference’s regular-season champions.

NO. 25 DAYTON 100, SAINT LOUIS 83 >>

Daron Holmes II had 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Koby Brea and Kobe Elvis each hit five 3-pointers as the Flyers snapped a three-game road losing streak.

Dayton made a Chaifetz Arena record 18 3-pointers and matched the school record for 3s, set earlier this season in a win over Oakland.

Brea and Elvis each scored 21 points for Dayton (23-6, 13-4 Atlantic 10), which won without starting point guard Javon Bennett, who was sidelined with a thumb injury.
