John Slagle February 26, 1928

- March 12, 2024

- Costa Mesa, CA

John Slagle officially finished his life’s work on March 12, 2024, passing away peacefully with family by his side. From the beginning, his life was big. John was the second oldest of three children. Raised in Pomona, California, his family raised pigs, beef, and walnuts on their ten-acre farm. John graduated from Pomona High School and went on to attend Mt. San Antonio Community College before being drafted into the Army. Upon returning home he went to work for a cabinet shop which led to a lifelong career in construction. John worked for several builders before beginning his twenty-eight-year career with Lewis Homes, Inc. “Big John” as he was known, was the General Superintendent on thousands of homes built in and around the Inland Empire. John had enough work ethic, street smarts, humor, and “John-isims” to fill a storybook. He was a giant, with a heart just as big. He married his wife Virginia in 1958, and they raised their four children in Claremont. He loved traveling to Europe, spending time in Jackson Hole and taking long drives on Sundays.

John is survived by his children, Michele ( James), Rodney, Kara (John) and Robin (Jon); his grandchildren Ryan (Casey), Megan (Jordi), Laura (Bryan), Samantha (John), Courtney, Cameron (Jess), Ashley (David), Jonathon (Katie); his 15 great-grandchildren. He has lovingly rejoined those who passed before him, his wife Virginia, father Jack, his mother Margaret, his sisters Marilyn and Rennette, daughter-in-law Joan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
