A man pulled out a burning home Thursday by firefighters in the Foothill Farms section of Sacramento County died from his injuries, the third victim who died after suffering injuries from a residential blaze in two days.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District firefighters were called just after 7:50 p.m. to the 4600 block of Grouse Court for reports of a residential fire. Firefighters said there was a man stuck in a back bedroom, according to archived audio dispatch calls reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.

Crews entered the home, consumed by heavy smoke and fire, with hose lines to find the victim. Firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene, said Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn, a spokesman for Metro Fire.

Wilbourn noted the home didn’t have operating smoke alarms and reminded residents to check fire alarms monthly and change their batteries.

The cause behind the fire is under investigation, Wilbourn said.

Thursday’s death comes a day after two men died from injuries suffered in another blaze that ripped through a home in Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood.

A victim died in the home on the 1900 block of Niantic Way, while another man was taken to the hospital with severe burns to his face, said Capt. Justin Sylvia, a spokesman for the Sacramento Fire Department.

The second man later died from his injuries at a hospital, Sylvia said.
