BALLSTON SPA — After serving as Ballston Spa football’s head coach for the past 11 years, John Bowen has decided to resign from his postion.

“This decision has come with much deliberation and prayer over the last six weeks as to what decision I would make regarding my future as Ballston Spa’s head coach,” Bowen said in a statement. “I have had a tremendous amount of support from my immediate family as I have worked through this process to ensure that a well thought out decision was made without emotion.”

Bowen cited that spending more time with his family made his decision easier.

“Football has certainly been a large part of my identity, but it is not at the core of who I am,” Bowen

stated. “I have always believed that if all that is said about me after I am gone is, ‘John was an outstanding football coach,’ then I will have failed as a husband, father, son, and friend.”

Ballston Spa community coordinator Stuart Williams had this to say of Bowen: “The district appreciates Coach John Bowen’s commitment to our football program and the students from our community during his tenure over the past 11 years. We are confident that his legacy will serve as the foundation as we continue to develop stu- dent athletes and the football program in Ballston Spa.

“The district administration will be organizing a selection process for a new head coach after the new year begins.”
