The Saratogian (Saratoga, NY)

Shame on this business official

-

I was glad to see The Saratogian had an article about the personal blog published by Peter Bardunias, president of the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, a diatribe blasting President Obama for his actions following the mass murder in Newtown, Conn.

I think it is important, however, to complete the quote that you included in the article, in which Mr. Bardunias said no person with Asperger’s syndrome should be “cast in the light of this piece of human garbage that wreaked horrors on that CT school on Friday.” The sentence actually read, “... cast in the light of this piece of human garbage that wreaked horrors on that CT school on Friday, nor by his accomplice, the President of the United States.”

According to the Times Union, Bardunias heads an organization that serves “more than 1,000 local businesses and organizations and is the fourth largest chamber in the Capital Region.”

Is a person who writes such libelous, vile, inflammatory statements qualified to head such an important organization in our county? If he does not resign voluntarily, then the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County should take steps to remove him from office.

We are all entitled to our private opinions, informed or ignorant as they may be. But when a person who represents a significant portion of the businesses and organizations of Saratoga County makes outrageous statements such as these, it diminishes the reputation of our local businesses in the national spotlight.

Mr. Bardunias has proved himself inadequate for the position of president of the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, and I hope he will not hold this important post for very much longer.
