Max Glansberg
Who are you?
I’m an 18-year-old senior at Saratoga Springs High School. I’m a member of the Temple Sinai congregation, volunteering at the Christmas Day dinner.
How did you get involved with the dinner?
For most of my life, my mom was in charge of it, so I was forced to go. Then she decided she wanted to sleep in on Christmas, so other people are running the dinner now. The guests who come here to eat are so nice. They’re lovely people.
What have you been involved in throughout high school?
Most recently, I was Rumpelstiltskin and the Woodsman in the school play “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon.” I’m in the Drama Club, Schwa Cappella and the Ultimate Frisbee Club. I also attended Camp Chingachgook for nine years. This past summer, I was a counselor there for the 7- to 12-year-olds. That was really different than being a camper— it was surprising. What I like best about working with kids is how innocent they are.
What do you want to do after graduation?
I’ve applied to eight schools. I have three acceptances and am waiting on the other five responses. My top two choices are Ithaca College and Indiana University at Bloomington. I want to major in recreational management and minor in psychology. I want to stay involved in drama, too, for fun.
What is recreational management?
It involves developing and coordinating kids’ after-school programs and summer camps, for example. That job as a counselor was one of the best times of my life.
