Region will ring in 2013
Weekender content coordinator Bob Goepfert offers his entertainment
picks:
This week, almost all entertainment is New Year’s-related, and dominating New Year’s Eve is First Night Saratoga (see feature story on Pages 6-7).
However, if you prefer to be less communal on New Year’s Eve, other entertainment is available as well.
ä The popular rock duo Sirsy will perform Monday night at Putnam Den at 63A Putnam St. in Saratoga Springs.
Sirsy is no longer a strictly local group— it did a lot of touring in 2012 and is becoming a national act. But its members live in the area and their music has emotional roots in the region, making them an ideal duo to see to celebrate the New Year.
The doors open at 9 p.m.; the opening act, NE Party, performs at 10 p.m. For information, call 584-8066.
ä Another popular Saratoga Springs pub is also offering independent entertainment. At The Parting Glass, 40-42 Lake Ave., the John Kribbs Band will hold forth and ring in the New Year. You can’t get a more independent musician than Kribbs, whose honest, basic, bluegrass sounds have made him a local legend. Music starts at 9 p.m. Call 583-1916.
Perhaps you’re wondering, “No Irish music at The Parting Glass?” That happens on Sunday, when the Celtic group Forthlin Road entertains at the Irish pub.
ä At the Charles Wood Theatre in Glens Falls, the Wild Women Revival is bringing back together three wildly talented women with a wild sense of humor who know how to belt out a song. (See story on Page 4.)
ä If you are in the mood to laugh on New Year’s Eve, The Palace in Albany will present four cuttingedge comics at the New Year’s Eve Comedy Blast, and Proctors Theatre is offering a night of comedy titled First Night of Comedy. Call 346-6204.
ä Proctors will offer more than laughs on New Year’s Eve. The venue is converting the G.E. Theater space into a nightclub. There will be room for dancing as two super bands, Funk Evolution and Skeeter Creek, supply the music.
