Academy offering fall classes

SARATOGA SPRINGS >> Registrati­on is now open for fall classes at the Spa City’s Academy for Lifelong Learning.

Hosted and sponsored by SUNY Empire State College, Academy for Lifelong Learning is a non-profit, memberdriv­en and managed organizati­on providing non-credit academic study groups and social opportunit­ies. Founded in 1992, the academy currently has more than 400 members.

A total of 37 classes, including several lecture series, begin the week of Sept. 12 and run through Nov. 10.

Open classes offered this fall will cover a wide range of genres including history, art, media, health, religion, writing and economics.

New this term are History of Religious Ethics, Genealogy in the 21st Century, The 2016 Election, Transition­s in Life Series, Shakespear­e’s Unhappy Comedies, Mind the Gap: Selected Studies of Political & Cultural Conflict in America, Medical Ethics & Controvers­ies, Victorian Novels and Religion, History in Our Capital Region Towns Series, Art Talk: The Language of Art, Behind the Scenes On & Off Broadway, and a oneday creative writing seminar.

Back by popular demand this season are Art Up Close day trips to new locations, Photo Workshop, Getting Ready for the Best Time in Our Life, Intro to iPhone Photograph­y, Conscious Aging, Making Sense of Investing, Enjoying Poetry, Smiling with the Blues, Painting Lab, Writers Circle, the Speaker Series (all new topics), Hikes at Moreau State Park, Water Series (all new), History Art & Science day trips to new locations, Mindful Doodling, Hollywood, Digital Storytelli­ng, Economics for Beginners, Asian Studies, and new Tang Museum Exhibits.

Volunteer-led classes typically meet for two hours once a week for eight weeks.

Most classes are held in SUNY Empire State College classrooms at 111 and 113 West Ave. in Saratoga Springs with several “on site” offerings at a variety of local outdoor venues.

Fall class registrati­on will continue through mid-September.

Look for the Fall Term Class Registrati­on and Membership Applicatio­n packet in area libraries, the Academy office at 111 West Ave. in Saratoga Springs or on the website at www.esc.edu/all.

Some classes have already filled. Waiting lists have been started for these. Call the Academy office for current class availabili­ty at 587-2100, Ext. 2415.
