Jazz quartet to close out Saratoga Springs music series,
SARATOGA SPRINGS >> Renowned jazz pianist Chuck Lamb will close out the 2016 LIVE! Music Series this weekend at one local historic venue.
The Chuck Lamb Quartet, with guest cellist Petia Kassarova of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Universal Preservation Hall, located at 25 Washington St. in downtown Saratoga Springs.
This event will also be the official Northeastern United States release party for his latest recording, North by Northeast.
The Chuck Lamb Quartet is the famed musician’s most recent project. His LIVE! Music Series performance will highlight music from the recently recorded album ‘North by Northeast’.
The night’s selections will feature new compositions as well as musical inspirations of his recent time in Russia, Japan, Singapore and Switzerland.
The quartet has a strong line up including percussionist Steve Holloway, bassist Scott Petito, saxophonist and flutist Jeff Nania and guest performer Petia Kassarova on cello.
Lamb and Petia met as part of a musical collaboration when they created a recording for the 2015 Electric City Couture: Makers Movement in America Runway Show at Universal Preservation Hall. Since then, they have been looking for the right opportunity to continue to collaborate. Segments of the work produced for that event will also be showcased on Oct. 1.
“The show with Chuck’s Quartet is going to be smoking hot,” said series producer Corey Aldrich of 2440 Design Studio, in a press release. “I have a special excitement about this one as I was the person who introduced Chuck and Petia for a musical collaboration for the 2016 Electric City Couture: Makers Movement in America show and am excited to see they are continuing to work together. I am thrilled to continue to be a part of their ongoing explorations.”
Lamb has been playing piano and touring around the world with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet for more than a decade. The group have released two esteemed recordings, ‘Classified and Lifetimes,’ to which Lamb contributed many of his original compositions.
Born in Bulgaria, Petia Kassarova began studying the cello at the age of 10. She attended the Bulgarian Conservatory where she studied with Prof. Zdravko Jordanov, a student of Mstislav Rostropovich. She is a member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, a founding member of Musicians of Ma’alwyck and is also on the faculty of Schenectady County Community College.
This special show will be celebrated with an appearance from Steinway and Sons in the form of a full concert piano. Overall, a not to be missed, one-ofa-kind moment in regional jazz history.
The 2016 LIVE! Music Series season has been an exploration that featured variations on the Brubeck Brothers Quartet with shows by Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play and The Dan Brubeck Quartet in addition to the upcoming show by Chuck Lamb. The Howard Fishman Quartet also performed for an intimate and memorable unplugged show in late August as part of the series.
The series will continue to be a fundraising tool for the ongoing restoration efforts of Saratoga’s Living Room. Additionally, the continued expansion of programming is a taste of what’s to come when Universal Preservation Hall re-opens in late 2017. The venue will close to complete major renovations starting in late fall of 2016 until 2017.
“Universal Preservation Hall is a perfect venue to showcase these fantastic musicians and we are thankful for their willingness to work with us as we strive to preserve this architectural and community landmark” said Teddy Foster, campaign director at Universal Preservation Hall, in the release.
General admission tickets to Saturday’s show are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
They are available online at chucklamb.bpt.me.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the ongoing restoration and remodeling efforts for Universal Preservation Hall.
