Driver gets prison in crash that killed man in wheelchair
HAUPPAUGE >> A Long Island driver has been sentenced to 1 ½ years to 4 1?2 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash that killed a man in a wheelchair last year.
Newsday reportS Suffolk County prosecutors say 36-year-old Christopher Bacayon was sentenced on Tuesday in the October 2015 crash in West Babylon that killed 40-year-old Michael Dora.
Bacayon’s attorney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Prosecutors say Bacayon, of West Babylon, admitted he left a nightclub the night of the crash and knowingly hit and seriously hurt or killed someone while driving.
Prosecutors say black box data indicates Bacayon had been traveling at 60 miles an hour at the time.
Prosecutors had recommended 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.
