Driver gets prison in crash that killed man in wheelchair

HAUPPAUGE >> A Long Island driver has been sentenced to 1 ½ years to 4 1?2 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash that killed a man in a wheelchair last year.

Newsday reportS Suffolk County prosecutor­s say 36-year-old Christophe­r Bacayon was sentenced on Tuesday in the October 2015 crash in West Babylon that killed 40-year-old Michael Dora.

Bacayon’s attorney couldn’t immediatel­y be reached for comment.

Prosecutor­s say Bacayon, of West Babylon, admitted he left a nightclub the night of the crash and knowingly hit and seriously hurt or killed someone while driving.

Prosecutor­s say black box data indicates Bacayon had been traveling at 60 miles an hour at the time.

Prosecutor­s had recommende­d 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.
