BUFFALINE MEMORIAL EVENT:

Eddy Visiting Nurse Associatio­n, a member of St. Peter’s Health Partners (SPHP), in collaborat­ion with the friends and family of Kathy Buffaline, will host the 13th Annual Buffaline Memorial Patient Care Fund event, Saturday, October 22, from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. at Franklin Terrace Ballroom, 126 Campbell Ave., Troy. FALLING LEAVES FESTIVAL:

Ballston Spa’s annual Falling Leaves Festival begins with a costume parade at 3 p.m. (line up 2:45 p.m.) from Wiswall Park on Front Street to Kelley Park. From 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p..m. there will be crafts, pinatas, bouncy bounces, a pie eating contest, a rock climbing wall, face painting, a pumpkin catapault (at 5 p.m.) and much more. GALWAY PLAYERS:

GENEALOGY DAY:

The Schenectda­y County Historical Society’s annual Genealogy Day is a great way for family history researcher­s — from beginners to experts — to learn more about where and how to find informatio­n, to share stories with other researcher­s, and to have time to use resources in the GremsDooli­ttle Library. HAUNTED HAYRIDE:

Haunted Hayride and Haunted House, 5 p.m. -10 p.m. at Gavin Park to benefit Operation Adopt A Soldier. A special “Little Screamers” attraction is planned from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. The hayride and haunted house cost $12. Games will be held in the park’s gymnasium (tickets sold separately). HAUNTED SARATOGA:

A walking tour that explores the lives and locations of Saratoga Springs’ intriguing and sometime spooky history starts on Broadway with a visit to a building that has witnessed a number of strange events, and continues to Congress Park and finally into the “Gut”—the old Jewish quarter. Along the way are stories of the many spirits that have lived in the city for hundreds of years. Tours are given every Friday and Saturday evening at 7 p.m. through October. Extra tours are scheduled for October 30 at 5 p.m. and October 31. Walking distance is less than a mile covered at a very

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: A Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, by the Malta Sunrise Rotary Club at the Malta Ridge Fire House, which will share in the proceeds. Hours are 8 to 11:30 a.m., and prices are $6 for adults, $3 for children aged 6 to 12, and free for those aged 5 and under. The fire house is located on the east side of Route 9 south of Northway Exit 13, and the menu includes sausages, scrambled eggs, orange juice and coffee, as well as pancakes.

SCOTTIE’S CLOSET: The 8th annual Scottie’s Closet will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Ballston Spa Middle School cafeteria. This annual event provides free gently used clothing, books, coats, and shoes to about 300 students, families and community members. SHREK THE MUSICAL: Home Made Theater opens their 32nd season with “Shrek The Musical,” with music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, based on the DreamWorks Animation motion picture and the book by William Steig. 7:30 p.m. at the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Spa State Park. SOUP ‘R BRANDS 8: Annik for Autism, Upstate NY Autism Alliance Organizati­on, Autism Task Forces of Hadley-Luzerne and Greenwich present a charity fundraiser titled “Soup ‘r Bands 8” featuring a soup tasting from area restaurant­s, a vote on favorite soups by the attendees, a Silent Auction with donations from area businesses and wonderful musical performanc­es from very talented musicians. SOUP SUPPER: CDA Court, Stella Maris #396 will hold a soup supper on Saturday, October 22 at Holy Cross Church, 247 N. Main Street, Salem. The menu consists of a variety of soups, bread and butter, coffee, tea and water, and many desserts. There will be a drawing for a fallthemed basket as well as a 50⁄50 drawing, both at the end of the supper. Admission is free; there will be a place for monetary donations to the Salem Food Pantry.

TANG FAMILY SATURDAYS: Musical Instrument­s: visitors will look at and talk about the beautiful instrument­s in the Balinese Gamelan in “Sixfold Symmetry: Pattern in Art and Science,” then make their own instrument­s and play them together as an orchestra. This free program runs from 2 p.m to 3:30 p.m. and is suitable for children age 5 and older along with their adult companions. BENEFIT CONCERT: Musical group HEARD’s original pieces have roots in jazz and world music celebratin­g cultures across the globe. CEMETERY TOUR: A free tour of the Dunning Street Rural Cemetery, Route 67, will be conducted on Sunday, October 23 (rain date October 30) at 2 p.m. The cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and started in 1775 with a family plot by the burial of Hanna Dunning, followed by many first settlers. Soldiers from all wars, including the Revolution­arily and Civil, are buried there. Sponsored by the Malta Memories Historic Group.
