Adopt A Soldier events planned to benefit troops

WILTON, N.Y. >> Operation Adopt A Soldier has several activities planned in its ongoing effort to supply troops overseas with care packages from home.

The Wilton-based, nonprofit group sends numerous types of personal care items and non-perishable food to U.S. military personnel.

In addition to the cost of purchasing supplies, internatio­nal mailing is quite expensive so fundraisin­g is always needed.

On Saturday, April 8, a baked ham dinner will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Queensbury Methodist Church, just west of Exit 19 on Aviation Road. The menu includes potatoes, two vegetables, gravy, rolls, butter, coffee, tea, punch and fresh strawberry shortcake. The cost is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and veterans and $10 for children under 10. Take-out orders are available. For reservatio­n or informatio­n call 222-1091 or 260-9922.

On Sunday, April 30, Adopt A Soldier is planning a bus trip to Turning Stone Casino. Buses will leave Wilton Mall near Dick’s Sporting Goods, light pole C-2, promptly at 6:30 a.m. The $35 fee includes transporta­tion, $25 free play or $20 in Bingo and $5 for food. On Saturday, June 10, the annual Operation Adopt a Soldier Golf Tournament is planned at Airway Meadows, 62 Brownville Rd. in Gansevoort. Players should check in by noon, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Dinner and awards are at 6 p.m. The cost is $85 per person with a four-person scramble format. The fee, due May 27, includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, range balls and the awards dinner.

Beverages will be available for sale on the course. All proceeds benefit troops. Men’s and women’s prizes will be given for hole in one, closest to the pin, longest drive and a putting contest. On Sunday, June 11, an overnight trip is planned to Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. The package includes round trip transporta­tion, one night lodging, tax, occupancy, tourism, hotel fee, baggage handling and service gratuities; plus $15 slot play, $30 meal credit at featured outlets, a $5 meal credit and show.

The per-person cost is $209 for a single room; $158 for a double room with two beds; $151 per person for three people in a room. The bus will leave Wilton Mall at 7 a.m. Fee must be paid by May 7. For informatio­n call 260-9922.
