GREENFIELD CENTER Lawrence R. Porter, Jr., 79, of Greenfield Center, NY, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2017.

Born in Albany, NY, Lawrence was the son of the late Lawrence R. Porter, Sr. and Miriam Bertha Babcock. He was predecease­d by a brother, William H. Porter, in 2010.

Lawrence was a graduate of Saratoga Springs School, Class of 1957. In 1956, he enlisted in the Naval Reserve, and after graduating served two years active duty on the USS Beatty.

He was employed by Martin’s TV and G. Heath King, and, while continuing to operate his part time TV antenna business, joined the Skidmore College security staff as a patrolman in 1969. Through hard work and dedication, he was promoted to Director of Security in 1983. Lawrence was a graduate of the Tri-State Campus Security Training Program at IONA College and a member of the Northeast College and University Security Associatio­n. He retired from Skidmore in January 2000, and two years later work as a school bus driver for Saratoga Springs City Schools, a job he thoroughly enjoyed for 12 years.

Lawrence was deeply religious and a huge fan of gospel music. He was a real people person with a tremendous sense of humor and the desire to make people laugh. Along with his family, his pride and joy was the property he lived on and continued to enhance and maintain since moving to Greenfield Center in 1948. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith Pasek Porter of Greenfield Center, daughter Lori Porter (Mark Baird) of Cohoes, son Lawrence (Lisa) Porter of Hiram, OH, granddaugh­ters Lindsay and Rebecca Porter, sister Marjorie (Carl) Bull of Saratoga Springs, dear friend Jon (Karen) Foster of Greenfield Center, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 PM day, March 24, 2017 at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 25 at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph’s Church, 3159 Route 9N, Greenfield Center.

Burial with military ors will follow in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave.
