Malta candidate introduces herself
On Thursday March 18, 2017, I was honored to receive the GOP endorsement to run for Malta Town Council Member. I am thrilled at the opportunity to have my name on the ballot in November.
As a child I spent many happy summers in Malta (on Saratoga Lake) and returned to the town as a full time resident over 13 years ago. I live in the southern end of the town with my husband Roger Schiera, an attorney, who currently serves as Republican County Commissioner of Elections. I am mother to two grown sons, Robb and Tim, both state troopers; step-mother to two grown stepsons Chris, an emergency dispatcher on Long Island and Alex, a local contractor; grandmother to two grandsons and two granddaughters.
I am owner of a specialty nursing practice based in Parade Grounds Village having founded a successful Woman-Owned Business Enterprise called AdvoCase, LLC in 2005. My small-business background and experiences will help advance the recent trend toward more responsible business growth in Malta.
I am a passionate believer in the Constitution of the United States and its protections, which serve to make Malta a great place to live and work.
I have a life-long commitment to community service, first as an EMS for over 20 years rising in the ranks to paramedic and also as a state-certified instructor coordinator. In 2008, it became clear to me it was time to end my EMS career. By then, I had been an active member of the Malta GOP committee for five years. The Republican voters of my district have returned me to office six times. As a committee member, I added my voice to many who resisted the roundabout on Round Lake Road near Northway exit 11.
I have served as Malta tax receiver for the last two years. I now would like to extend my community service by serving the community and its residents on the town council.
I’m running to bring stronger representation to the Exit 11 area of the town, and help to cut spending. I thank you for your kind consideration and humbly ask for your vote in November. — Sharon Farley Schiera
