SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY.>> John Grady might have retired from Saratoga Springs High School last June, but he’s still giving back to the school he served for 28 years.

For the third straight year, Grady will host the Saratoga Classic Car Show benefiting Saratoga Springs High School scholarship fund, taking place April 30 at the high school.

“It’s kind of a payback a little bit,” said Grady, who served as head of the school’s business education department.

The avid classic car collector said there’s a lot of people in the car community from the Capital District.

“This is also a way for them to gather, but it’s for a good cause,” said Grady.

Grady remains part of the scholarship committee.

“It’s money that’s out there for students to apply for that are seniors,” said Grady. “We gave away anywhere from $15,000 to $20,000.”

The fundraiser raised $750 during its first year and about $1000 last year.

“We try to fill the gaps to keep these scholarships going and that’s kind of the reason for the event,” said Grady.

Any car is welcome. It costs $10 to register a vehicle.

Grady expects upward to 150 cars with trophies awarded to the Top 40.

Grady said there’s two impartial judges from Amsterdam and Schenectady to determine the best cars.

Show hours are from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Food will be available to purchase, but the event is free with scholarship donations accepted.

Local companies help sponsor the event while donating to the scholarship fund: Michael’s Automative, Mangino, Versatile Trailer Sales, Albany Saratoga Speedway, among others.
