Streaks baseball, softball earn wins

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Saratoga Springs varsity baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning and four in the bottom of the fifth to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 10-4 Suburban Council win over Averill Park Wednesday at East Side Rec.

Brian Hart went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Blue Streaks bats while Devin McArthur, Nico Concha and Brad Hipsley each had two hits for the hosts.

Zach Vavasour pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for Saratoga Springs (9-2 overall) while Connor Hicks took the loss on the mound for Averill Park (1-7-1). LA SALLE 19, SOUTH GLENS FALLS 5» La Salle’s baseball team ex-

ploded for 21 hits in a 19-5 non-league victory over South Glens Falls Wednesday evening.

Kyle Borey led the way for the Cadets with a 5-for-6 performanc­e at the plate while teammates Jon Weber went 3-for-4, Cole Carey hit a double and a triple, and Cory Listing tripled.

Quentin Crudo picked up the win on the hill for La Salle. SHENENDEHO­WA 3, MOHONASEN 0 » Brendan Spulnick threw a five-hit shutout for Shenendeho­wa in a Suburban Council victory over Mohonasen. He struck out five and gave up one walk. Devin Disonell and Joe Palko both collected multiple hits for the Plainsmen while Devin Smith, Joe Novenche, and Matt Connors each drove in a run for the hosts. NISKAYUNA 12, BURNT HILLS-BALLSTON LAKE 2 » Nick Insognia carried a no hitter into the seventh inning for the Warriors (7-1 Suburban Coundil) before Derek Haughey broke it up with a double in the top of the inning.

Insognia finished with one hit allowed with 11 strikeouts and two walks in six innings in the win. Conor Graham, Tyler Senecal and Liam Davison each hit two-run homers to fuel the Niskayuna offense.

Burnt Hills (1-7) was hindered by four errors in the contest. WATERFORD-HALFMOON 6, GREENWICH 5 » The Fordians scored in the bottom of the seventh to steal a Wasaren League win from the Witches. Greenwich jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings on RBI hits from Carson Mosher, Dereck MacPhail, Bailey Winch and Jon Miller.

The hosts rallied with five runs in the fourth, however, to chase Greenwich starter Miller from the mound. Jared Aubin went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Fordians at the plate.

Softball

SARATOGA SPRINGS 2, AVERILL PARK 1 » McKenzie Ebert picked up the win in the circle and had one of two RBIs for the Blue Streaks in a Suburban Council victory.

Emily Cornell had the other RBI for Saratoga Springs, who scored two runs on 12 hits while Averill Park managed just one run on 10 hits. Kelsey Mohl went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Warriors in defeat. SHENENDEHO­WA 11, MOHONASEN 2 » Nicole McCarvill went 2-for-2 while Jenna Rivers was 1-for-2 with two RBIs to lead the Plainsmen to a Suburban Council victory. Emily Albanese pitched a complete game three-hitter with one earned run, three strikeouts and three walks. BETHLEHEM 17, ALBANY 0 » Olivia Miranda twirled a perfect game for the Eagles in a five-inning contest. GREENWICH 14-16, WATERFORD-HALFMOON 1-0 » Greenwich picked up two Wasaren League wins Wednesday in a doublehead­er to improve to 7-0 in the league and overall. Sabrina Whitehouse had six hits over the two games while Shania Danio contribute­d six RBIs in the nightcap. SCHUYLERVI­LLE 3, SCOTIA-GLENVILLE 2 » Lauren Kelleher went 1-for-3 from the plate with an RBI to help the Black Horses edge the Tartans. Schuylervi­lle improves to 6-1 in the Foothills Council and 6-3 overall. GALWAY 19, B-K-W 1 » Emma Smith compiled four hits and six RBIs for the Eagles while teammates Matisha Kenyon had four RBIs and Amber Schwab had two singles and two RBIs.

ALBANY ACADEMY 7, ICHABOD CRANE 0 » Connors and Aidan O’Brien won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches by a combined scored of 24-1 in La Salle’s rout of Ichabod Crane. SHAKER 5, BALLSTON SPA 4» Shaker’s No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams of Nasiru Kotey/Sonny Gajjala and Arius Benisen/George Tidd both won team points to help edge Ballston Spa. The Scotties took three of the singles matches, including Pete Gonzales’ 6-4, 6-4 win over Ashutosh Yaligar at No. 1. BURNT HILLS-BALLSTON LAKE 7, NISKAYUNA 2 » The Spartans’ No. 1 through No. 4 singles — Ryan Vullo, Tyler Doherty, Anthony DeAngelis and Drew DeLorenzo — each earned straight-set wins to help clinch the team victory. SHENENDEHO­WA 8, MOHONASEN 1 » David Maher earned a thrilling 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for the Warriors but the Plainsmen swept the rest of the matches. Andy Bindelglas­s, Brandon Werner, Donovan Suguitan, Jeffery Want and Rohan Gangaraju each picked up singles wins for Shen.

SVINGALA TAKES 3RD AT TOURNEY » Local NYS champion Trent Svingala of Maple Hill took third place with a 3-1 record at the The Journeymen World Freestyle Classic held April 22-23 at Union College in Schenectad­y. Countries competing in the event were the U.S., Canada, Italy, France, Kazakhstan, Austria and New Zealand.

SPARE TIME WEDNESDAY NIGHT OPEN » The team of Jim Nelson, Tom Jay, Sid Cisco and Doug Johnson edged Frank Prescott, Wayne Gaudette, Leo Dalpe and Matt Moseley 2,544-2,331 to win the Spare Time Clifton Park Wednesday Night Open roll-off. Cisco rolled a 257 single and match-high 716 series for the victors.

TORONTO MARLIES 3, ALBANY DEVILS 2 » The Albany Devils fell to the Toronto Marlies 3-2 in overtime Wednesday at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies now lead the best-of-five series, 2-1.
