Officials mark preservation foundation’s anniversary
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Public officials joined Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation’s Executive Director Samantha Bosshart on Friday morning to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the organization.
Mayor Joanne Yepsen, Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, county Supervisors Peter Martin and Matthew Veitch, Tom Lewis — representing state Sen. Kathy Marchione, Dan Peluso — representing U.S. Rep. Paul D. Tonko, and Bosshart celebrated with proclamations in front of the Spirit of Life & Spencer Trask Memorial in Congress Park. The proclamations were from Saratoga County, the state Assembly, the state Senate, Saratoga Springs and the U.S. House of Representatives.
“For the past four decades, the dedicated membership of the Saratoga Springs Preservation
Foundation have been our city’s foremost advocates for protecting and preserving our architectural and landscape history,” Yepsen wrote in a proclamation.
Since 1977, the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation has led advocacy for architectural, cultural and landscape heritage in Saratoga Springs, according to its website.
Over the years the foundation’s operations have been supported through fundraisers, donations by members and grants from organizations like the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, the city of Saratoga Springs, The Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust, the Saratoga County Industrial Development Agency, the Preservation League of New York State and the New York Racing Association.
The foundation works to identify and save threatened buildings and celebrate history, the website said.
Throughout the year the foundation hosts different events. On Saturday, May 13, the foundation will host a day of touring historic homes in Saratoga Springs.
