May events planned at Moreau Lake State Park

MOREAU, N.Y. Moreau Lake State Park has announced the following programs for May:

-Inclusive Nature Class on May 2 at 4:30 p.m. This class is for school aged children who have IDD, are on the spectrum or have an IEP. Class will consist of a 10-15 minute presentati­on with many visual aids before heading out on a 40-minute trail walk to continue learning. Each class participan­t must have an adult with them, and family members and siblings are welcome to attend. Class spaces are limited and registrati­on is necessary.

-Kneehigh Naturalist on May 4 at 10 a.m. This class is intended for children ages 2-5 and their parents/guardians along with any siblings. There will be a short story based on the outdoors before going for a short hike hoping to see wildlife.

-I Love My Parks Day on May 6 at 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Volunteers can help with several projects. They are: 1) Spreading wood chips at three playground­s. 2) Lake and trails cleanup. 3)Building and planting planter boxes. 4) River maintenanc­e, pruning tools needed. -White Birch Trail hike on May 8 at 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The first mile is a steep uphill, and then it flattens out, but comes to another steep but short section, then leveling out again. This hike is between 3 and 4 miles with views of a variety of different tree landscapes.

-Full Moon Hike on May 11 at 7:30-9:30 p.m. Led by park naturalist who will point out flora and fauna as the sun is setting and the moon is rising. Cost is $3 per person.

-Kayak Trip on May 12 at 1-3 p.m. Park naturalist will lead this beginner’s paddle around the lake.

-Potters Point Hike on May 13 at 1-3 p.m. Views of the Hudson River.

-Moreau Overlook Hike on May 16 at 10 a.m.-noon One of the park’s most strenuous hikes; 0.9 miles up to views of Moreau Lake.

Programs are held weather permitting and are subject to change. Call the park office to confirm event date, time and location. Participan­ts should be prepared to spend time outside and are encouraged to wear appropriat­e clothing and footwear.

Reservatio­ns are required for all programs and classes, and there are fees for classes.
