Dallas earns medals at regionals
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. » Ava Dallas, 14, of Wilton won two medals in the Level 8 Senior A Division at the 2017 Region 6 Women’s Gymnastics Championships held April 22-23 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
Dallas, competing for Stepping Star Gymnastics based in Ballston Spa, scored a personal-best 9.575 on the vault to take home the silver medal. In addition to the vault, Dallas also medaled on the balance beam where she won the bronze medal with a score of 9.250.
Her all-around score of 36.525 earned Dallas fourth place in the USA Gymnastics Region 6 competition which included the best gymnasts from New York, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
The medals earned at the regional competition add to an already impressive list of end-ofseason titles for Dallas. She recently won the Level 8 New York State vault championship in the Junior C division. Last year, she won the Level 7 New York State Senior A Division all-around championship as well as individual titles on the floor exercise, the vault and the balance beam.
In 2015, competing for the Saratoga Regional YMCA, Dallas won the Level 4 YMCA National Gymnastics Championship as well as the League Championship, the New York State Championship and the Northeast Regional Championship. In 2014, her first year of competitive gymnastics, Dallas won the Level 3 YMCA League Championship and the Northeast Region all-around title. Dallas is already working to perfect the necessary skills to move up to Level 9 next season and has dreams of one day competing at the college level for the Florida Gators.
