WILTON, N.Y. >> The Wilton Democratic Committee has announced candidates for November’s elections led by Nancy Snyder, who is challenging long-time Republican Supervisor Art Johnson.

Snyder, 53, who has degrees in economics and math education, is an associate broker for Cambridge-based Devine Properties and has previously worked for other realty firms in the Saratoga Springs market.

Democrats have also endorsed Paula Tancredi Penman and Kenneth R. Garcia to run

for town council, and Eric Rosenburg to challenge incumbent Justice Gerald Worth.

“It’s time for a change,” Snyder said. “If you want to make changes you need to get involved. I just felt like if there was ever a time, it’s now.”

Although accepting the Democratic endorsement, Snyder is not enrolled in any party.

“I don’t want to be beholden to any party, person or special interest,” she said.

Snyder moved to Wilton with her family in 1973, graduated from Saratoga Springs High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at SUNY Albany. After seven years in Central New York she moved back to Wilton to raise her children, Maxwell and Madison, who graduated from South Glens Falls High School.

Snyder previously taught math for nine years at Ballston Spa High School, and was involved with the teachers union as a representative and treasurer.

In 2006, she returned to real estate, which she first got involved with in Albany in 1985. Before Devine Properties, Snyder previously worked for Keller-Williams Realty.

Among her many community activities, she is vice president of Friends of Moreau Lake State Park.

The two-year supervisor’s position has a $24,500 salary, plus $18,878 from the county.

Town council terms are for four years, with a $13,104 annual salary.

Two seats will be contested this fall. One is held by Republican John McEachron, the other by Joanne Klepetar, a Democrat, who is not seeking reelection.

The GOP has endorsed McEachron and newcomer Duane Bogardus, setting up a four-way race against Penman and Garcia, as the top two vote-getters win election.

Democrats have not endorsed candidates to challenge incumbent Town Clerk Susan Baldwin or Highway Superintendent Kirklin D. Woodcock, both Republicans, whose terms are two years each.
