Emily Mele Sorbero
AMSTERDAM - Emily Mele Sorbero, 85, of Princsurfameton Street, Amsterdam, New York, passed away Tuesday May 9, 2017, rounded by her loving ily.
Born on June 21, 1931 in Gloversville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Maria Politi Mele. She was a life- long area resident and was a graduate of Gloversville High School. She went on to graduate from The State Teachers College at New Paltz with a degree in Education.
Emily was employed as a first grade teacher for the Greater Amsterdam School District for over 35 years until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Hospital AuxilSeJo2006. iary, the Retired Teachers Association, St. Mary’s niors, Iroquois Seniors and the American Association of University Women.
On June 21, 1959, she was united in marriage to seph Sorbero. He passed away on August 9, Emily and her late husband Joseph enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. Emily will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her daughters, Maria Alexaitis of Amsterdam, NY, and Joanne (Richard) Wenke of Saratoga Springs, NY; Cherished grandchildren, Cara (Michael) Pelletier of Bethel, Maine, Ryan Algreat-grandexaitis of Amsterdam, NY, Emily and Sara Wenke of Saratoga Springs, NY; Cherished daughter, Malia Pelletier and cherished step grandchildren, Savannah and Tristan Pelletier of Bethel, Maine. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday morning May 12, 2017 at 10:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main St. Amsterdam.
Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Niskayuna, NY.
