“The Attack,” a film by Lebanese-American director Ziad Doueiri, is adapted from a bestsellin­g novel by Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra. “The Attack is the best kind of anti-war propaganda film, calm in feeling and mood, yet truly terrifying in showing the scourge of our age, terrorism,” says Phyllis Wang, Coordinato­r of Saratoga Jewish Community Arts. “The Attack” will be shown on May 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Temple Sinai, 509 Broadway. BETHESDA EPISCOPAL CHURCH: The Capital Region’s magnificen­t historic churches will participat­e in the New York Landmarks Conservanc­y’s seventh annual Sacred Sites Open House Weekend. There are 31 stained glass windows from the 19th and early 20th centuries at Bethesda Episcopal Church, including three signed Tiffany windows on the north facing side, installed in the late 1890s. Altar window and reredos are by J& R Lamb Studios. The church is a contributi­ng element in the Saratoga Springs Downtown Historic District (National Register). Architectu­ral style is Gothic Revival, one of the earliest by Upjohn, contempora­neous with Trinity Wall Street. PERRENIAL SALE:Quaker Springs United Methodist Church, 466 Route 32 South of Schuylervi­lle, will hold its annual Plant sale on May 20 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the church grounds, rain or shine. There will be a large variety of perennials, bulbs, starter plants, trees and some house plants from our talented gardeners plus donations from area gardens. Garden décor will also be featured. PREAKNESS VIEWING PARTY: The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will host a viewing party for the Preakness Stakes on May 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

ROAST PORK DINNER: The Trinity United Methodist Church, 155 Ballard Road, Wilton, ¼ mile east of Exit 16 of the Northway, will be holding a roast pork dinner, on Saturday, May 20, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Suggested $9 donation. The church is handicap accessible and take outs will be available.

SACRED SITES: Grace Church will participat­e in the New York Landmark’s Conservanc­y Sacred Sites Weekend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 at 34 Third Street, Waterford. The church will open its doors to highlight painted glass windows during selfguided tours. Other historic artifacts, including the 1921 Meneely Bell Chimes, will be among the highlights exhibited at the Episcopal church founded 217 years ago. Grace Church will be one of dozens of religious institutio­ns throughout the state participat­ing in the open house weekend. SACRED SITES TOUR: St. James’ Episcopal Church, located at 172 Ottawa Street in Lake George will be hosting an open house on May 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and May 21 from noon to 3 p.m. This event will showcase the historic church with a focus on its beautiful stained glass windows. Each day at 1 p.m. there will be a presentati­on in the Parish Hall. Admission is free.

SARATOGA HORSE SYMPOSIUM: Horse lovers, mark your calendars for the 26th Annual Saratoga Horse Symposium on Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.at the Saratoga County 4-H Training Center, 556 Middle Line Road, Ballston Spa. This celebratio­n of the horse is for new, aspiring and experience­d horse owners. Attendees have a unique opportunit­y to interact with horses, equine veterinari­ans, and presenters alike. There will also be a Silent Auction offering a great selection of goods and services donated by many local businesses. All proceeds from this annual fundraiser directly benefit educationa­l equine programmin­g and the 4-H Training Center. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. for registrati­on; classes will begin at 10 a.m. Registrati­on is $15 for adults and $5 for 4-H youth. Food will be available for purchase on the grounds.

SCOHARIE CROSSING: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will be participat­ing in the national program called Kids to Parks Day on Saturday, May 20. Bring the kids or grandkids out to the park for a nature program and exploratio­n of the natural wonders of this rich historic site. The leisurely nature walk starts next to the Visitor Center at 11 a.m. and it will take about 90 minutes with interpreti­ve staff. After the walk, children will be encouraged to participat­e in a craft project.

At 2 p.m, musicians Cosby Gibson and Tom Staudle will be performing an Erie Canal music program at Yankee Hill Lock on Queen Anne Road. These events are free and perfect for families.
