GREENFIELD CENTER, N.Y.>> Longtime Connecticut business Loon Meadow Farm has relocated to Saratoga County, where it recently opened a new bed and breakfast.

Set on at 153-acre farm at 695 Locust Grove Rd. in Greenfield Center, guests are now invited to stay at the new Loon Meadow Farm.

For decades, Loon Meadow Farm has served customers throughout the region offering professional horse-drawn livery services, including carriage rides, sleigh rides and wagon rides for all types of events and occasions.

Last year, owners Steve and Beth Podhajecki decided to bring Loon Meadow Farm, including five horses and more than a dozen antique carriages, to the greater Saratoga Springs area, where their business already had a following.

Loon Meadow Farm is now based in Greenfield Center, on the Podhajecki family farmland where Steve spent his childhood 1940s and 1950s.

Although the move last year from Norfolk, Conn. was somewhat of a step toward retirement after spending many years traveling with their business, the couple will continue offering their horsedrawn livery services in the area, including along the old logging road on the local property.

Furthermore, they’ve expanded Loon Meadow Farm to now include a bed and breakfast. In their new role as innkeepers, the Podhajeckis are sharing their home with visitors from near and far. The house was newly built in 2016 and comes equipped with all modern amenities, but features many antique items, from furniture to artwork. The three guest rooms are themed The Southern Belle, The Annie Oakley room and The Annex. Decor throughout the home is meant to honor the horse, especially the driving horse.

Breakfast, typically prepared by Steve, is described as traditional country cooking with local, farm fresh eggs. “We’re not gourmet cooks, but we’re hearty cooks,” Beth said.

Loon Meadow Farm started accepting houseguests last December, but the Podhajeckis are currently gearing up for the bed and breakfast’s first summer season.

Additionally, the owners are busy with other projects, such as a creating a display of the vintage horse-drawn vehicles in the 200-year-old barn on site, and getting the sleighride course and warming hut ready for the winter season.

In the meantime, Loon Meadow Farm is offering private horsedrawn carriage and wagon services by appointment, often at the nearby Saratoga Spa State Park.

The Podhajeckis pride themselves on the hundreds of events and occasions they have serviced. Loon Meadow Farm has had the honor of enhancing occasions for countless clients over the years; such as solemn transport for departed loved ones in their vintage hearse, joy-filled rides for newlywed couples in their formal carriages, rides for couples to their proms, young ladies’ special transport for Sweet 16s and Quinceañeras, girls’ princess Parties in the Cinderella carriage, Santa arrivals at tree lighting ceremonies, hayrides at fall festivals and extraspecial “pop the question” rides.

“It’s been a lot of fun doing so many different things,” Beth said.

Happily settled in their new Saratoga County home, Steve and Beth look forward to sharing their passion for their horses, their farm and life in general with Loon Meadow Farm’s guests and clientele.

“We’re really excited to create something new,” Beth said.
