Shaker top seed in boys lacrosse playoffs

By Stan Hudy SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Section II boys lacrosse seeding meeting started at 9 a.m. Friday morning, but the final results were not available until after 6 p.m. Thursday night’s Guilderlan­d at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake was postponed in the middle of the second quarter due to severe weather that knocked down trees and power lines throughout the Capital Region. The contest was completed Friday afternoon to close out the Class A standings.

When all regular season contests complete, Shaker, Niskayuna, Glens Falls received the top seeds and the newly created Class D top spot went to Greenwich. Previously Section II had competed under a three-class system.

With Guilderlan­d’s 6-4 win over Burnt Hills officially completed Friday afternoon, Shaker and Shenendeho­wa secured first round byes in the Class A playoffs.

Guilderlan­d the No. 3 seed will host No. 6 Christian Brothers Academy 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 while Saratoga, the No. 4 seed will host No. 5 Bethlehem, also at 4:15 p.m.

The winner of Guilderlan­d/CBA will travel to take on No. 2 Shenendeho­wa, 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 26 with the winner of Saratoga/Bethlehem traveling to face Shaker at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The Section II Class A final will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at Mohonasen High School.

There is never a surprise in whatever class Niskayuna competes in, as the Silver Warriors once again are a No. 1 seed, this time in Class B and received a bye. They await the winner of the No. 5 Columbia at No. 4 Queensbury contest at home Thursday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. No. 2 Ballston Spa will host No. 7 Troy High at 4:15 p.m. Monday afternoon and that winner will face the victor of No. 3 Burnt HillsBalls­ton Lake hosting No. 6 LaSalle 5 p.m. Monday.

The Class B final will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30 at Mohonasen High School.

In Class C, Glens Falls received the bye and will await the winner of the No. 5 Johnstown at No. 4 Averill Park contest, 5 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will travel to face Glens Falls 5 p.m. Friday. Also on Friday, No. 3 South Glens Falls will travel to take on No. 2 Scotia.

The Class C final is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at Mohonasen High School.

In the newly created Class D boys playoff chase, No. 3 Schuylervi­lle will host No. 6 Voorheesvi­ile, 7 p.m. Monday night on turf and No. 4 Maple Hill will host No. 5 Hoosick Falls.

No. 2 Cambridge awaits the winner of Schuylervi­lle/Voorheesvi­lle 5 p.m. Thursday, May 25 and Greenwich will host the Maple Hill/Hoosick Falls winner 7 p.m.

The Class D final will be hosted by Mohonasen 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 30.
