SCREENING: Bow Tie Criterion Cinemas® in downtown Saratoga Springs presents free of charge the premiere of “A Crosswalk in Time” a 10-minute P.S.A. filmed entirely in Saratoga Springs about the advantages of Complete Streets. 6:30 p.m., Bow Tie Criterion Cinemas® at the corner of Railroad Place and Church Street in Saratoga Springs. ”A Crosswalk in Time” is an all volunteer collaborat­ive production with Skidmore College, The City of Saratoga Springs and its Community.

HAWLEY FOUNDATION:

The Hawley Foundation for Children will proudly distribute $117,000 at their 3rd Annual Awards Ceremony which will be held on Monday, May 22, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 86 Congress Street in Saratoga Springs. Carl Anderson III, a Hawley family descendant and Historical Researcher, will be the Keynote Speaker. Saratoga Springs Assemblywo­man Carrie Woerner and Shania Hayward, a 2014, 2015 and 2017 College Incentive Grant recipient, are part of the program as well.

HUMAN RIGHTS TOWN

HALL: Mayor Yepsen is pleased to invite Saratogian­s to a Human Rights town hall event on May 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Hall, located on the third floor of City Hall. Mayor Yepsen will be joined by Angelica Morris, executive director of the Human Rights Commission in Schenectad­y. Members of the new Saratoga Springs Human Rights Task Force will be introduced at the May 22 Town Hall. All groups and individual­s interested in this topic may attend. LYME ACTION NETWORK SHOW: Lyme Action Network presents, ”the little things”, an acclaimed multi-media theatrical reading, produced by Story horse Documentar­y Theater, written by Jeremy Davidson and directed by Mary Stuart Masterson, for a single performanc­e at the Wood Theater in Glens Falls on May 22. The performanc­e begins at 7:30 p.m. A “talk-back” with Masterson, Davidson, and Lyme disease experts will follow the performanc­e. Tickets are $15. A pre-performanc­e reception featuring Déjà Vu Jazz, appetizers by Gourmet Café, and wine and beer by Mean Max Brew Works will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets for the reception are $25. FOSTER PARENT MEETING: A Foster Parent Informatio­n Meeting will be held on May 23, at 4 p.m. at the Services Building, 152 West High Street, Ballston Spa. Saratoga County is in need of foster homes for school-aged children and teenagers. The next certificat­ion class will begin in fall 2017. IN PRAISE OF POISON IVY: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will host environmen­tal educator and author Anita Sanchez for a presentati­on on the deadly, powerful, beautiful, yet much-hated plant called poison ivy. During this program, Sanchez will discuss her book “In Praise of Poison Ivy,” and the many roles of poison ivy in both human and natural history, starting with the plant’s long history as—of all things—a popular garden plant. This program takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Enders House on Schoharie Street in Fort Hunter. There will be a brief Friends Group meeting prior to the presentati­on. HALL OF DISTINCTIO­N: On Wednesday, May 24, the Saratoga Springs High School Hall of Distinctio­n will honor David Carr and Laura Yates LeCours, M.D., for their extraordin­ary profession­al accomplish­ments at the 2017 Academic Awards. The Hall of Distinctio­n Recognitio­n Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Loewenberg Auditorium at Saratoga Springs High School. Current students will be receiving scholarshi­ps and academic awards. The particular­s of the various honor presented to our students will be provided at the ceremony on May 24.

AUDABON SOCIETY: Fred Breglia, Executive Director of the Landis Arboretum in Esperance, will present a talk, “Ancient Forests and Champion Trees” on Wednesday, May 24, at the Saratoga Springs Public Library on Henry Street, Saratoga Springs. The program is offered as part of the monthly program of the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society. The program starts at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.

WATERFORD MEMORIAL

DAY PARADE: The Annual Waterford Memorial Parade will be held on Wednesday,

May 24, at 7 p.m. Kenneth Smith, a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Air Force, will lead the parade as the 2017 Grand Marshall. The Parade will line up at 5:45 p.m .from Grace Street proceed to Saratoga Avenue and end at Soldiers and Sailors Park on Broad Street. Step off will be at 7 p.m. sharp. A wreath laying ceremony will be held in the park following the parade to honor our veterans both past and present. WOMEN’S CLUB OF ALBANY: You’ve heard about Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and the Women’s Suffrage Movement, but did you know that there was a strong anti-suffrage movement, and some of the loudest voices were women fighting against the right to vote? On Wedneday, May 24, at 7 p.m., the Woman’s Club of Albany (WCA) will host Deborah Emmons-Andarawis, curator at Historic Cherry Hill, for a special presentati­on on the topic. The anti-suffragett­es even had their own soundtrack, and songs were written for both sides of the issue. As a special part of the evening’s fare, some of them will be performed by Tony Opalka and Mary Le Fleur. The event is free and open to the public. The Club is located at 725 Madison Avenue, Albany.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE: On Thursday, May 25, the City of Saratoga Springs, New York will commemorat­e the remembranc­e of those who gave their lives defending the United States of America with a parade in their honor. The event will commence at 6:30 p.m. at the north end of Broadway. The parade includes our local veterans organizati­ons, marching bands and service organizati­ons. The route will proceed south through the center of Saratoga Springs on Broadway, and finish at Congress Park where a brief memorial ceremony will be held. Please join us in this patriotic tradition.
