GRANT COTTAGE: U.S. Grant Cottage State Historic Site opens for the 2017 season on Memorial Day weekend with a new exhibit and program honoring long-time Cottage caretaker and Civil War veteran Oliver Pendelton Clarke. “A Brave and Generous Heart: The Life of Oliver Pendelton Clarke” will include artifacts from Andersonvi­lle military prison, Civil War memorabili­a, and items from Clarke’s time as Cottage caretaker. SARATOGA NATIONAL HISTORIC PARK: Saratoga National Historical Park, located on Route 4 and 32 in Stillwater, will offer special living history programmin­g and readings which honor Americans who fought and died in the 1777 Revolution­ary War Battles of Saratoga. At 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., park staff and volunteers from the public will be invited to read the names of Connecticu­t men who died in the Battles of Saratoga, battles which marked the “most important battle fought in the world during the last 1,000 years.” At 1 p.m., the sorrowful story of the widow of one of Connecticu­t’s fallen soldiers will be discussed.
